  • VCHS Band Camp
  • Business collecting supplies for area school districts

    Willms and Yakel Insurance Agency is part of the effort to provide school supplies for local children.
    Through its Back to School Community Program, the agency, located at 411 W. Gallatin St. in Vandalia, is accepting donations of school supplies through Aug. 31.
    General supplies being accepted include spiral notebooks, tissues, three-ring binders, No. 2 pencils, crayons, markers, color pencils and hand sanitizer.
    The donated supplies will go to schools in Vandalia, Brownstown, St. Elmo and Ramsey.

  • ROE No. 3 office schedules two TRS meetings in area

    The Regional Office of Education No. 3, in conjunction with the Teachers Retirement System, will hold group meetings to provide information about TRS benefits and to explain the retirement process.
    Members of the retirements systems who have questions about their benefits and the retirement process should plan to attend one of the group meetings:
    • Cafetorium at Effingham High School, 1301 W. Grove St.-Wednesday, Aug. 30, 4:30 p.m.
    • Cafeteria at Taylorville High School, 815 Springfield Road-Thursday, Sept. 21, 4:30 p.m.

  • Vandalia has permission form for solar eclipse

    Vandalia School District students will be allowed to view the solar eclipse on Aug. 21, but in order to do so, they must fill out and return the permission document as shown here.
     

  • Patoka's plans for solar eclipse

    All Patoka students in grades K-12 will be experiencing fun and learning on Aug. 21, the day of the solar eclipse, but somewhat different depending on the grade.
    In the morning, all K-6 classrooms will be visited by someone from the Patoka Library.
    This volunteer will read to the students the book “The Big Eclipse,” by Nancy Coffett. This book reading will explain in their terms the eclipse, and how and why it’s happening, and also covers viewing safety.

  • Area school districts set registration dates

    VANDALIA
    Online registration opened at 10 a.m. on Monday. To complete all registration items, parents use the parent portal at TeacherEase (www.teacherease.com).
    Student fees can be paid online.
    Families new to the district can go online to www.teacherease.com/NewFamilyRegistration.aspx?refid=00d6c98b-e4a6-45cb-....
    District registration will be held from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. next Wednesday at Vandalia Junior High School.
    The first day of student attendance will be Thursday, Aug. 17.

  • Donley this year's recipient of Distinguished Alumni Award

    A 1983 graduate of Vandalia Community High School who is a chemical engineer with a strong background in handling hazardous materials is this year’s lone selection of the Vandalia Alumni and Friends Foundation’s Distinguished Alumni Award.

  • First Methodist holds Backpack 2 School

    The First United Methodist Church in Vandalia will again be hosting “Backpack 2 School” at the church’s Family Life Center at Fourth and Main streets in Vandalia, from 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 8.
    Any school child, accompanied by a parent or guardian, can receive a free backpack containing coupons and some free giveaways.
    The event is planned as a fun time, with games, activities, face-painting, free hair cuts and refreshments.
    Two bicycles will be given away, along with many other prizes donated by local businesses.

  • KC Board of Trustees Scholarships

    Three area students have been awarded Kaskaskia College Board of Trustees Scholarships for the 2017-18 school year – Rachel Green of Vandalia, and Katelyn Dugan and Kelsie Waters of Mulberry Grove.

  • First Presbyterian has 'Tools for School'

    Tools for School, a program which provides free school supplies to Fayette County in-need students pre-kindergarten through junior college will be in operation at First Presbyterian Church in Vandalia on the following dates and times:
    • Wednesday, Aug. 9, 9 a.m.-7 p.m.
    • Thursday, Aug. 10, 9 a.m.-7 p.m.
    • Friday, Aug. 11, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
    • Saturday, Aug. 12, 9 a.m.-noon.
    Those who will be picking up supplies are to enter through the north door of the church, located at 1221 W. Fillmore St., Vandalia.
