  • Dr. Jonathan Sones joins Jay Lowry's practice

    Dr. Jonathan Sones, an Edwardsville native who graduated from Millikin University and Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine, has joined the Vandalia dental practice of Dr. Jay Lowry.
    Sones is no stranger to Fayette County, however. He’s been coming to the Brownstown area to hunt since he was in college.
    An avid outdoorsman, he enjoys “hunting, fishing and anything outdoors.” He also has a speedboat that he’s rebuilt from the ground up.

  • Chuck Hutson on board that oversees state's nursing homes

    Charles Hutson, longtime nursing home administrator in Fayette County, was recently appointed to the Illinois Nursing Home Administrators Licensing and Disciplinary Board. The board is a division of the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, which regulates all professional licensing in the state.

  • Fayette County Hospital to buy CT scanner

    Fayette County Hospital and Long Term Care will soon order a new CT scanner to replace one that has been in use there for the past eight years.
    “CT scanners have become great diagnostic tools for physicians to use to help diagnose patients’ medical conditions,” said Greg Starnes, FCH chief executive officer.

  • Service Flags Flying At Sunset 66

    David Leigh, owner of Sunset 66 in Vandalia, and Andy Lester, a local contractor, wanted to honor members of the U.S. military, and decided to do so by flying the flags of all branches of the service at the station. Crawford-Hale American Legion Home of Vandalia supplied the flags, Sunset 66 bought the poles and Lester installed them. "We've gotten a lot of positive comments on the flags," Leigh said.  

  • County board OKs loan to FCHD after seeing plans for new home

    The work on renovating the new home of the Fayette County Health Department will get under way in the near future.

    The architect’s drawings for the new FCHD home, the former site of Leo Brown Lumber in the 400 block of West Edwards Street in Vandalia, were presented to the Fayette County Board last week.
