  • Quality Diesel Service opens in Vandalia

    Quality Diesel Service, a new company owned by Bill and Linda Overton of Altamont, has opened on Vandalia's north side.

    Located at 2052 Wagner St., near OctoChem, the business offers services ranging from oil changes to engine overhauls for medium- and heavy-duty diesel trucks and equipment.
    Overton previously owned Illinois Southwest Trucking Co. in Altamont for 18 years, and has more than 23 years in the diesel truck industry. He previously started and owned a shop in Effingham, but has since sold his interest in the business.

  • Denny's coming to Vandalia

    After sitting vacant for 3 1/2 years, the restaurant space adjacent to the Fast Stop Travel Center at Vandalia’s western I-70 interchange will soon have a tenant. By late August, a new Denny’s Restaurant will be opening there.

  • St. Peter Insurance honored

    St. Peter Insurance Agency of St. Peter was recently named to the Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Co.'s "President's Club" for 2011 as a top agency for the company.
    Recognized by Grinnell Mutual's president and CEO Steve Crawford, the agency ranks among the company's top 50 agencies and 15 farm mutual companies in a 12-state area for outstanding production during the past five years.
    This is the fifth year that St. Peter Insurance Agency has been recognized for the achievement.

  • Vandalia Rehab Holds Food Drive For CEFS

    Vandalia Rehabilitation and Health Care Center recently held a food drive to help restock the local CEFS food pantry.

    More than 260 pounds of non-perishable food items were collected by staff members, volunteers and resident family members during the drive. The center's staff hopes to make this an annual event to help the food pantry after the busy holiday season.     The Vandalia Rotary successfully defended a challenge by First Baptist Church of Vandalia in the latest round of the Rotary Challenge.

  • Family Life Consultants now MCS Counseling

    Dr. Melanie C. Schaafsma of Vandalia recently announced that she is no longer associated with the Family Life Consultants therapy group of Collinsville and has opened her own private practice as of April 1.

  • Maranatha's Donates To SAFE, Lighthouse

    A fundraising raffle held recently by Maranatha's Salon of Vandalia raised $3,212 that will be split by two area charities, SAFE (Sexual Assault and Family Emergencies) and Lighthouse Pregnancy Center. Accepting the ceremonial check from Maranatha Cripe, left, are Becky Kerkhoff, center, of Lighthouse Pregnancy Center and Dorothy Schultz of SAFE. The "Spread The Love" promotion was sponsored by LOREAL, and only one salon in downstate Illinois was selected to participate.

  • Zone adds equipment, remodels

    Eric Rickman, who along with his wife, Tracy, owns The ZONE of Vandalia, is shown in the first photo supervising a workout for member Sarah Cripe. The ZONE has recently added several new Hammer Strength machines, second photo, and remodeled its facility at 320 W. Jefferson St. As a part of the remodeling job, the Rickmans installed new lighting and moved all of the cardio equipment to a separate room in the back part of the building. The facility is open to members 24-hours per day, and is staffed from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, call 283-0300.   

  • Sears donates to FAYCO

    The Sears store in Vandalia recently donated 2 percent of its sales for a day to FAYCO Enterprises Inc. The contribution from the Sears Holding Corp. will be used to assist in client activities at FAYCO Enterprises Inc., a local sheltered workshop.     Metzger named top loan officer by LLCU

    Tim Metzger, manager of Land of Lincoln Credit Union in Vandalia has been honored by the credit union.

     

    He was one of three Land of Lincoln employees given High Achiever performance awards for work done in 2010.

    Metzger was named top loan officer and employee of the year. Joining him in being recognized by the company were Bethanie Glan (top teller) and Will Nave (top back-office employee).
