  • Marion Eye Care office opens

    “Everybody has the right to see well, and we strive to make that available to everyone,” said Kim Stief, office manager of the new Marion Eye Centers & Optical facility in Vandalia.
    “Seeing is very important, and we want to make sure everyone can afford it.”
    Marion Eye Centers, which was founded by Maqbool Ahmad in Marion, now has 37 locations and offers a full line of eye-care services – including eye exams, glasses, contacts and cataract surgery.
    The company accepts all insurance programs and offers senior discounts.

  • Sweet Peas – New consignment shop focuses on kids

    Robbi Meade’s pet name for her children is “Sweet Peas.” So when she decided to launch a consignment store for children, the term of endearment seemed to be a natural choice for the name.
    Thus, she recently opened the business under the name of Sweet Peas Consignment Boutique.

  • Sweet Peas Consignment Boutique Ribbon-Cutting

    A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held last Thursday at Sweet Peas Consignment Boutique in Vandalia. The store, owned by Robbi Meade, center, sells like-new clothing and accessories from infant through juniors sizes. The shop is located at 1611 Veterans Ave., next to Los Amigos. To Meade's left are her daughter, Kylie Meade, and her mother, Pam Dammerman. Hours are 10-6 Monday through Friday and 10-4 Saturdays.

  • Michel is vice chair of realtors association

    Sandy Michel of Vandalia GMAC Real Estate of Vandalia was installed as vice chairman of the Greater Gateway Association of Realtors at the association's recent annual installment banquet in Collinsville.
    At the ceremony, immediate past chairman of the association's board, Rick Edwards of Century 21 Seniker-Edwards, turned over the gavel to newly elected chairman of the board Jenni Beck.

  • Gottman attends banking conference

    Anita Gottman, banking center manager of Midland States Bank in Vandalia, attended the 2010 Women in Banking Conference held on Oct. 21-22 at the Hilton Hotel in Springfield. The conference was sponsored by the Illinois Bankers Association and the Illinois League of Financial Institutions. It brought together nearly 100 women in banking from throughout Illinois.  
    Sessions included: communications as a strategic business tool, mobile banking, mortgage market fraud and bank marketing, as well as many other banking issues and professional development topics.

  • Arthur Young Inc. celebrating 50th anniversary

    It’s been half a century since Arthur Young, a youthful car salesman from Litchfield, came to Vandalia to take over the ownership of Burtschi Motor Co., the local Chevrolet and Oldsmobile dealership.
    At that time, Young was in partnership with his former Litchfield employer, Brubaker Motor Co., in the local venture.
    Ten years later, in 1970, he became the sole owner of Arthur Young Inc.

  • Ribbon-cutting held at new Rural King

    A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held recently at the new location of Rural King in Vandalia. On hand for the event were members of the Vandalia Chamber of Commerce and the Rural King staff – including store manager John Beck, front row, to the right of Vandalia Mayor Rick Gottman.
