  • FCH names top employee, leader of year

    At the Fayette County Hospital annual employee holiday and service awards dinner, held on Dec. 17, two employees were recognized for their exemplary performance during 2010.
    Abby Harre has worked at Fayette County Hospital for 33 years, and was named 2010 leader of the year for her leadership as manager of Food and Nutrition Services.
    One year ago, the hospital faced significant financial concerns and experienced reductions in staff and wages. Since then, the hospital’s finances have turned around, said Greg Starnes, the hospital’s CEO.

  • FCH Special Care Unit reopens

    The Special Care Unit at Fayette County Hospital re-opened in December after being closed for two months for major renovations.
    The third-floor Special Care Unit reopened with two beds, rather than its previous four beds. The overall space has been  enlarged to handle more equipment.
    Greg Starnes, FCH chief executive officer, said that the average number of patients per day in the SCU in 2008 and 2009 was less than one patient.

    Payne attends legal seminars in Chicago

    Troy G. Payne, one of the attorneys with LeFevre Oldfield Myers Apke & Payne Law Group Ltd. of Vandalia, recently participated in two seminars in Chicago.

    The first continuing legal educational seminar was on money matters in divorce. The seminar addressed financial issues involved in divorce cases and how to detect fraud in divorce cases.

    Friends and Families of Fayette County Hospital recently conducted a raffle that included several prizes. Mary Halford, president of Friends and Families (second from left), presented the awards. Winners were, from left, Dale Wasser (cookbook), Cindy Claybrick (cookbook), David Dugan (grand prize of a $500 gift card from Givens Meat Shop) and Carol Murray ($250 gift card from Givens Meat Shop). Not pictured was Mike Boggs, another winner of a $250 gift card from Givens Meat Shop.

    Arthur H. Young, who founded Arthur Young Inc. in 1960, was recently honored by General Motors for his 50 years in the automobile business. Holding a plaque from General Motors are Arthur's son, Dennis, and Dennis' wife, Angie. The business is located at 122 W. Gallatin St. in Vandalia.

    Atmos Energy Corporation said it expects that most of its utility customers in Illinois could pay lower natural gas bills this coming winter, compared to last year.
