    Troy Payne attends family law seminar

    Troy G. Payne, an attorney with LeFevre Oldfield Myers Apke & Payne Law Group Ltd. of Vandalia, participated in a one-day continuing legal education seminar on family law in Peoria on Feb. 24.

    The seminar addressed several aspects of family law and divorce cases involving financial issues, trials and appeals. It also covered the ethical considerations of representing someone through a family matter.

  • Fayette County Health Department Ribbon-Cutting

    A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Tuesday at the new home of the Fayette County Health Department at 419 W. Edwards St. in Vandalia. The building, the former home of Leo Brown Lumber, now allows all of the functions of the health department to be housed in one building. FCHD Administrator Rhonda Andrews, fourth from the left in the front row, said that more than 250 people toured the facility. She said that she's excited about the new building "because it allows us to integrate our services like never before."

    A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Monday at the Copper Penny, a new restaurant and bar in downtown Vandalia. The business is owned by Amy Gaffney, second from left in the front row.   • Medicine Shoppe expansion creates more room, services

    An expansion project that nearly doubled the retail area of the Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy in Vandalia is now complete.
    Keri Henry, pharmacist and owner, said the project will allow the store to provide more services to its customers and to display more products.

  • Home & Garden Show is March 12

    Area residents wanting to learn about the newest products and services available for the home and garden can do so without leaving town by attending the annual Vandalia Chamber of Commerce Home & Garden Show.
    The Saturday, March 12, event will be held at the Vandalia Junior High School gymnasium from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    In addition to the chamber, the co-sponsors of the event are The Leader-Union and WKRV/WPMB.

  • Cut Loose Salon opens doors in Vandalia

    After working together in another local shop, five Vandalia women this month launched a beauty salon of their own.
    Known as Cut Loose Salon, the new shop is owned equally by the five women – Jenny Lay, Angel Kopp, Lisa Melton, Emily Alderson and Kallye Eyman. It is located in the former Beauty Boutique suite in the old Day and Night Grocery building at 427 W. Orchard St.
    Though the women have been preparing the building for the past month, the salon opened on Monday, Feb. 14.

  • National Bank honored as lender

    National Bank was presented a Million Dollar Lender plaque by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development, recognizing the bank as one of the top guaranteed housing lenders in Illinois for 2010.
    The bank originated $7,304,150 in loans that Rural Development guaranteed to help 80 moderate income homebuyers purchase their first home or upgrade to a better one.
