A fundraising raffle held recently by Maranatha's Salon of Vandalia raised $3,212 that will be split by two area charities, SAFE (Sexual Assault and Family Emergencies) and Lighthouse Pregnancy Center. The "Spread The Love" promotion was sponsored by LOREAL, and only one salon in downstate Illinois was selected to participate.

The Sears store in Vandalia recently donated 2 percent of its sales for a day to FAYCO Enterprises Inc. The contribution from the Sears Holding Corp. will be used to assist in client activities at FAYCO Enterprises Inc., a local sheltered workshop. Connie Edgar, a licensed massage therapist and owner of Serenity Spa of Vandalia, recently announced the addition of two new staff members at the spa.
The first newcomer is Vandalia native Ashley Metzger Miller, a licensed esthetician, who was trained at New Image Technical Center in O’Fallon. Though she’s been doing facials for two years, she has been at Serenity since late November.
She uses Bio Elements skin care products to do facials and waxing.

Each year, the Vandalia Rotary Club selects two Vandalia High School sophomores to receive the Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) to attend the weekend RYLA Camp and participate in the leadership and outdoors adventure team-building program.
The RYLA sophomore weekend is the first part of a three-year Rotary youth leadership program. RYLA winners will be invited to return for additional leadership training in their junior and senior years.
