  • FNB promotes Jay Jolliff to VP

    First National Bank recently announced that Jay Jolliff has been promoted to vice-president and added to the trust committee of the bank.
    Jolliff, a Patoka resident, has more than 15 years of experience in the financial services and banking industry. He began his career with First National Bank in November 2008 as an assistant vice-president/loan officer.

  • McCarty, Stock promoted

    First National Bank recently announced that Megan McCarty and Sam Stock, have been promoted to Junior Loan Officer. They started their new positions on April 17.
    McCarty, a graduate of Vandalia Community High School, graduated from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 2010, with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a specialization in management.  She began her career at First National Bank in October  2010 as a loan clerk.

  • First Vandalia Corp. meeting held

    The annual stockholders’ meeting of First Vandalia Corp., parent company of The First National Bank, with locations in Vandalia, Ramsey, Patoka, Mulberry Grove and Greenville, was held April 11 at The First National Bank in Vandalia.
    Directors Ann M. Schwarm and Haldon E. Warner were re-elected to serve three-year terms. The newly re-elected directors join current directors, William E. Chappel, Todd Shulman, B. Rand Edwards, Thomas L. McCarty and R. Wynn Provines.  

  • Leader-Union wins seven awards in SIEA contest

    The Leader-Union received seven awards for news, photography and advertising excellence in a recent contest sponsored by the Southern Illinois Editorial Association.
    The results were announced at the association’s annual meeting on April 27 at Giant City State Park in Makanda. The Leader-Union competed against all large weekly papers in the southern half of Illinois.
    In each category, prizes were awarded for first, second and third places, as well as honorable mention. All prizes were for entries published in 2011.

  • Real Living VRE receives GGAR awards

    Five  realtors from Real Living Vandalia Real Estate were recognized for their performance in 2011 at a recent awards reception hosted by the Greater Gateway Association of Realtors.

  • FCH receives IDPH grant to fund project

    Fayette County Hospital has  been awarded a grant for $356,470 from the  Illinois Department of Public Health for the purchase of digital mammography and C-arm radiology equipment.
    The hospital, through its Friends & Families Foundation, has been raising funds for about  a year in order to purchase the new technology, especially digital mammography.
    In November 2011, the hospital applied for a grant from the Illinois Department of Public Health to assist with the fund-raising efforts.

    In the last of a series of challenges to community organizations to encourage blood donations, the Vandalia Rotary Club was defeated by the fire, police and sheriff’s departments.

  • Ribbon Cutting Held at Ali Marie's On Gallatin

    A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Sunday, April 1, at Ali Marie's on Gallatin.

    The store, owned by Alison Durbin, shown in the second row in the center in the above picture, is located at 509 W. Gallatin St. The store sells new brand-name clothing for men and women, as well as accessories such as sunglasses, jewelry and belts. The telephone number for the store is 339-7159. 

  • Vandalia Medicine Shoppe pharmacy closes

    After more than three years in business in Vandalia, Keri Henry has closed the Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy, selling the customer prescription files to Cain’s HealthMart Pharmacy.
    Henry cited the state’s slow payment record as the primary reason for her decision to pull the plug on the business at the end of the day last Friday.
    “The reason we sold is because of how the state of Illinois is operating now,” she said. “It’s hard to stay open when you’re not getting paid.”
