Leader-Union wins two awards in IPA

The Leader-Union won two awards in the annual contest conducted by the Illinois Press Association.
The first award was a second place in the photo series category for a photo page on the fundraising concert performed by the Vandalia Community High School Band in early 2013. Publisher Dave Bell shot the photos and Managing Editor Rich Bauer did the layout for the page.
The second award was an honorable mention in the local editorial category. Bell wrote an editorial titled “Opportunities lost by IHSA decision” that questioned a decision by IHSA officials that didn’t allow a Vandalia athlete to compete in the state track meet finals after missing the first call for the event.
