  • Kull Funeral Homes offer memorial trees

    Kull Funeral Homes of Altamont and St. Elmo have renewed their affiliation with the Lofty Oaks Association.
    Lofty Oaks is a New Hampshire-based organization dedicated to reforestation and conservation efforts in Illinois.
    The firm arranges to have a tree planted for each service that it performs in order to provide a living memorial in honor of the deceased and to renew the forest life of Illinois.
    The memorial trees are plantred in the spring and fall.

  • Vandalia Chamber has membership drive

    The Vandalia Chamber of Commerce is in the middle of a two-month membership drive. The effort to recruit new businesses began July 1 and will continue until the end of August.
    “Our main objective with this drive is to increase awareness of what the chamber can do for businesses and individuals within the community,” said Shannon Craycroft, executive director. “In doing that, we are hoping to increase our membership numbers. A larger membership base means a larger network of individuals working together and more member-to-member discounts.”

  • Green on Gallatin

    Several members of the Vandalia Rotary Club and Soroptimist International joined Vandalia Mayor Rick Gottman (second from right) in a dedication ceremony for the replanted trees in downtown Vandalia.

    The Soroptimists have maintained the planters for several years, and the Rotarians have agreed to care for  the trees. The trees are Japanese Tree Lilacs, a hardy variety that has white blossoms in June or July.

  • Fayette County Hospital announces plans to open wound care clinic Aug. 2

    Fayette County Hospital recently announced plans to open an outpatient wound care clinic on Aug. 2.
    The clinic is designed to treat patients with chronic or slow-healing wounds that have shown little or no signs of healing over the course of 30 to 60 days. The clinic offers advanced treatments where only traditional methods have been available previously.

    Irene Webber, left, and Katie Schukar, right, reminisce with Bob Lindberg, retiring executive director of FAYCO Enterprises, at a reception held in his honor last Thursday.

    Both women had children who needed the services offered at a sheltered workshop and were instrumental in getting FAYCO established in 1976. With Lindberg's retirement, Kim Taylor will be taking over the leadership of the organization.
