  • Herbert S. Giller, 49, Greenville

    Herbert Steven Giller, 49, of Greenville, died at 10:25 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at his residence.

    Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at County Line Family Church in Donnellson, with Pastor Adam Hahs officiating. Private family burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until time of services on Saturday at the church. Hough and Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro was in charge of arrangements.

    Mr. Giller was born on Nov. 21, 1959, in Litchfield, the son of Herbert and Lila Boothe Giller. He married Brenda Vollintine.

  • George “Lyle” Jones, 82, Vandalia

    George “Lyle” Jones, 82, of Vandalia, died at 10:15 a.m. on Friday, April 17, 2009, at the family residence.

    Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Hohlt & File Funeral Home in Vandalia, with the Rev. Joe Lawson officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia, with military rites accorded by Crawford-Hale American Legion Post No. 95 of Vandalia. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until time of services at the funeral home.

    Mr. Jones was born on June 25, 1936, in Vernon, the son of George and Nora Holt Jones.

  • Carl Ehlert, 87, Montana

    Carl Ehlert, 87, of Polson, Mont., and formerly of Vandalia, died on Saturday, April 11, 2009, at his daughter’s home.

    A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 9, at Grogan’s Funeral Home in Polson, Mont.

    Mr. Ehlert was born in 1922 in Schleswig, Iowa. He married Elizabeth Joan Davies in 1945.

    Eugenia M. Sprague Fisher, 87, of Vandalia and formerly of Ramsey, died at 11:30 p.m. on Monday, April 13,2009, at St. John’s Hospice in Springfield.

    Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday at Miller Funeral Home in Ramsey, with Dr. Ward Sussenbach officiating. Burial will be in Ramsey Cemetery in Ramsey. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until time of services on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials: Parkview Free Methodist Church in Vandalia.

    Darrel R. Chatham, 77, of Brownstown and formerly of Maroa, died at 1:25 a.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2009, at Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur.

    Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Liberty Christian Church in Brownstown, with Jim Dann officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery in rural Brownstown. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday at Claggett Funeral Home in Brownstown, with a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m. Memorials: Liberty Christian Church.

    Danny Joe Carman, 62, of Aurora, Mo., and formerly of Vandalia, died at 7:50 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2009, as a result of a vehicular accident in Missouri.

    Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Crown Point Church in rural Vandalia, with the Rev. Pete LeDuc and Brother Bill Kistler officiating. Burial with military rites will be in McInturff Cemetery in Hagarstown. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of services at the church.     Kenneth F. Sparks, 88, of Vandalia, died at 3:25 a.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2009, at Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia.

    Graveside services with military rites accorded by Crawford-Hale American Legion Post No. 95 of Vandalia were held at 11 a.m. on Monday at McInturff Cemetery in Hagarstown, with the Rev.   • Mary L. Ballance, 86, Vandalia

    Mary Louise Ballance, 86, of Vandalia and formerly of Carmi and Tuscon, Ariz., died at 8:41 a.m. on Sunday, April 5, 2009, in the SCU at Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia.

    Services will be held at a later date. Burial will be at a later date in Carmi. Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia was in charge of arrangements.

    Mrs. Ballance was born on Sept. 8, 1922, the daughter of John Henry and Eunice Moseley Stewart. She married Burton Richard Newman; he died in 1977. She married Glen Robert Ballance on May 3, 1982; he died on Feb. 28, 2008.
