• Kenneth Kophazy, 51, Vandalia

    Kenneth Kophazy, 51, of Vandalia, died at 10 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2009.

    A homecoming celebration was held on Wednesday, July 22, at the home of his stepson, Mark Hill, south of Hillsboro. Mr. Kophazy was a local musician, singer and songwriter, and his services reflected this. Local musicians performed a number of songs, guests signed Mr. Kophazy’s guitar and wrote notes to Ken, which were attached to helium balloons and released. Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Home in Nokomis was in charge of arrangements. The body was cremated.

    Willie D. Sloan, 92, of Beecher City, died at 7:35 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2009, at his residence.

    Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday at Myers Cemetery in Herrick, with Pastor Don Miller officiating. Family and friends may gather at Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Beecher City for a 9:15 a.m. procession to the cemetery.

    Mr. Sloan was born on Nov. 14, 1916, in Beecher City, the son of Ed and Eva Lillian Miller Sloan. He married Beatrice Elvira Doty in 1935; she died in 2001. He then married Madeline Estelle Dunn Showalter; she died in 2007.

    Donald Eugene Younker, 77, of Ramsey, died at 12:25 a.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2009, at Vandalia Rehabilitation Center in Vandalia.

    Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Ramsey Cemetery in Ramsey, with the Rev. Larry O’Dell officiating. Military rites will be accorded by Anderson-Scoggins American Legion Post No. 460 of Ramsey. Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday at Miller Funeral Home in Ramsey. Memorials: Donor’s choice.

    Albert Zimmer, 93, of Witt, died at 8:45 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at Hillsboro Area Hospital in Hillsboro.

    Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, at Oak Grove Cemetery in Hillsboro, with the Rev. Randy Sands officiating. Bass, Patton & Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro was in charge of arrangements. Memorials: Montgomery County Cancer Association.

    Mr. Zimmer was born on May 5, 1916, in Witt, the son of Charles and Minnie Boeke Zimmer. He married Stella A. Kolik on Oct. 4, 1941, in Ironton, Mo.; she died on Sept. 17, 2004.

    Joyce M. Martin, 71, of Mulberry Grove, died at 3:50 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at Fair Oaks Nursing Home in Greenville.

    Services will be held at a later date. Young Funeral Home in Greenville was in charge of arrangements. Memorials: The family.

    Mrs. Young was born on Marhc 20, 1938, in Missouri, the daughter of Luther and Laurene Dilks Counts. She married Vernon C. Martin on April 23, 1955, in St. Louis, Mo.

    Delories M. “Dee” Sefton, 74, of Shelbyville, died on Jan. 27, 2009, at her home in Maricopa, Ariz.

    Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Bob Schwarm Farm, and those attending are asked to wear casual attire. Memorials: Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

    Mrs. Sefton was born on Aug. 30, 1934, in Shelbyville, the daughter of Cecil and Marie Phelps. She married Darrell N. Sefton Sr. in 1956.

    In 1960, she and her family moved to Mesa, Ariz. She owned and operated a couple of beauty salons in Mesa, and later retired and became a homemaker.

    Dr. Richard J. Crawford, 74, of Denver, Colo., and formerly of Vandalia, died on Thursday, July 23, 2009.

    Burial was in Fairmount Cemetery in Denver.

    Dr. Crawford was born on Jan. 20, 1935, in Vandalia, the son of Harold and Tillie Crawford. He married Jan Marie Fegley of Battle Creek, Mich., on July 26, 1959, in Carbondale.

    Wilma O. Autenrieth, 77, of Independence, Mo., and formerly of Vandalia, died on Monday, July 20, 2009.

    Services were held at 10 a.m. on Thursday at Trinity Church of the Nazarene in Independence. Burial was in Leavenworth, Kan. Marts Memorial Service in Kansas City, Mo., was in charge of arrangements.

    Mrs. Autenrieth was born on July 17, 1932, in Ceresco, Mich., the daughter of Glenn and Gladys Stampfler. She married LeRoy Autenrieth of Vandalia at West Eckford Missionary Church in Marshall, Mich.
