    Jonathan Cavaletto, son of John and Andria Cavaletto, and the late Michele Cavaletto, was confirmed on Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Centralia.
    Following the service, a dinner was held at the Cavaletto home.  Attending were: John, Andria, Rachel and Jonathan Cavaletto; Rob and Rita Smith; Rob Jr., Roni, Lauren & Robbie Smith; John, Connie, Kevin, Jason and Taylor Cavaletto; Marilyn and Glori Magnus; Earl and Hazel Magnus; Larry, Sue, Kyle and Olivia Urban; and Dane and Belinda Harpster.

    The “seniors” of First Baptist Church in Vandalia were honored Sunday morning with breakfast, special decorations  and live music.

  • First Church of God to honor mothers

    First Church of God will be honoring mothers with a continental breakfast from 9:30-10:15 a.m. this Sunday.
    Mothers will also be honored during the worship service with a video program that features  responses from children of the church that were composed from Proverbs 31. The children also will be performing a song.
    The church is located at the corner of Thrill Hill Road and Lakewood Drive.

    Holy Cross plans to celebrate Ascension

  • Cindy Hof of Vandalia was the main speaker at last Thursday's National Day of Prayer breakfast at Crawford-Hale American Legion Home.

    She told the story of her daughter's recovery from a serious illness, and how that has become an opportunity to praise God. "When we trust in God, he gives us opportunities to live for him – to shine," she said. The breakfast was the culmination of a week-long series of prayer events at various locations around Vandalia. The Vandalia Ministerial Alliance coordinated the activities.

    It was another beautiful day for Evergreen Outreach on Monday. Entertaining those present were the Jefferson Primary School pre-school students. They sang several “fish” songs, per their unit study, assisted by two teachers, Mrs. Abendroth and Mrs. Smith, and two teacher aides.

  • Several prayer activities were held Sunday through Wednesday this week in preparation for the National Day of Prayer Breakfast at 7 a.m. Thursday at Crawford-Hale American Legion Home.

    Sunday was a kickoff prayer service at Parkview Free Methodist Church, and events were held Monday through Wednesday mornings at Vandalia Chamber of Commerce (first photo), Vandalia Community High School (second photo) and Fayette County Courthouse (third photo).
