  • Visit Lake of the Ozarks
    Nathan, Mahala and Harper Jacquin spent the weekend at the Jacquin Family lake house at Lake of the Ozarks.

    Registration is under way for Vacation Bible School at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. The VBS will be held July 25-29, from 6-8 p.m. Forms may be picked up in the church narthex.

    Worship attendance on Sunday morning was 142.
    The organist was Rita Yagow.
    Acolyte was Jacob Hawkey.
    Attending elders were Darrell Wollin and Allen Magnus.

  • Bethel Baptist Church of Vandalia held its annual Vacation Bible School from June 5-9, and as part of the VBS, an offering was collected every night in a competition between the boys and girls.
    The purpose of the offering was to purchase food for the 6:35 Food Pantry operated by the Fayette County Ministerial Alliance. Through the competition, $806.52 was collected.
    Bethel Baptist Church is located seven miles northwest of Vandalia on Ill. Route 185.

    Judd and Carla Newcomb of Mulberry Grove are the parents of a girl born at 8:20 p.m. on Friday, May 27, 2016, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese.

    The annual Sam and Clara Grubaugh reunion will be held at noon on Sunday, July 3, in the Rogier Park pavilion. All family members and friends are welcome.

    The Atwood family reunion will be held this Saturday in the pavilion in Rogier Park, with a noon meal. Family and friends are welcome.

  • Dan and Barbara Oberlink of Vandalia will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on June 30.

  • The FourGiven Quartet will be in concert at 7 p.m. this Saturday at Unity Baptist Church, located at Ill. Route 185 and Airport Road in Vandalia.

  • The Ramblin’ Rose Bus, a ministry sponsored by Effingham Catholic Charities, will travel to 14 towns in the seven-county area this summer to deliver school supplies and clothing.
    The program is designed to provide assistance to families with limited financial means, who qualify for free or reduced school lunches.
