  • As the eighth year for Fayette County’s Summer Lunches for Kids Program winds down for this year, recognition is due for the generosity of the individuals, businesses, churches and organizations for the distribution of about 500 lunches a week to children in the county.

  • Golden Circle Nutrition Program, located at 616 W. Jackson St. in Vandalia, provides meals in a comfortable setting to people 60 years and older and their spouses.
    There are no income guidelines or any type of restrictions besides the age limit.
    Meals are prepared by Deb’s Catering of Altamont and delivered fresh daily. The suggested donation is $2.60 for meals.
    Call the site director, Sharon Harris, at 283-1040 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. the day before you wish to eat there.

  • Erma Atwood
    An open house to celebrate the 90th birthday of Erma Atwood will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, at Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care in Vandalia.

  • The Matt and Rhonda Howard family has always been a close-knit, caring family. Whatever the kids – Madison, Maisie and, Brady – have been interested in, the parents have encouraged and supported them, while still giving them the freedom to think and do for themselves.

  • It is documented that Coach Jim Graver started the Leo ball rolling in 1957 and chances are that that ball was a baseball, as Graver was the baseball coach of the Abington High School in Pennsylvania and an active member of the Glenside Lions Club.

  • Weekend Visitors
    Mitch, Gretchen, Owen and Aaron Harpster of Jackson, Mo., spent Friday and Saturday with Dane and Belinda Harpster of St. Peter.
    On Saturday, they visited Mary Harpster at Lutheran Care Center in Altamont.
    On Sunday, Mitch, Gretchen and boys traveled to Troy to the baptism of Katie Kline, daughter of Caleb and Krissie Kline, where they were serving as Katie’s godparents.

    … flavored also with good memories, was enjoyed by the human inhabitants of the homestead (namely Bill and Panzi) as we took a car ride down in the Shobonier/Southern Vandalia countryside one day last week.
