  • Fayette County 4-H’ers competed against exhibitors from throughout the state in the Junior Livestock Shows at the Illinois State Fair, Aug. 7-17.  
    Seth Purcell placed third with his Hereford/Polled Hereford steer 1,275-1,345 pounds in the Junior Show.
    Purcell placed second in the Land of Lincoln Cattle Show with his Hereford/Polled Hereford steer 1,365-1,407 pounds, and placed second in the Livestock Show with his Hereford/Polled Hereford steer 1,365-1,407 pounds

  • Erin Doyle of Ramsey and Nicholas Burrow of Altamont have announced their engagement and upcoming wedding.

  • Emily Elizabeth Tally of Vandalia and Travis Mitchell Knebel of Smithboro were married in a ceremony at 4 p.m. on June 7, 2014, at Steve Knebel’s farm in rural Vandalia, with the Rev. Kurt Simon officiating.

  • John and Sandy Ericksen will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary this Friday.

  • Critters Tolerating Heat Wave
    (Rancher Bill feeling heat)
    In answer to several inquiries, the critters all seem to be handling the hot temperatures, as they are eating, drinking water, sleeping and resting well, and behaving as usual.  
    Their head caregiver, Bill, is feeling the discomfort more, although he is eating, and drinking water and lemonade in unusual large quantities, especially when he is weed-eating, mowing, and feeding and watering for the above mentioned critters.

  • Ice cream social in Brownstown

    Brownstown First Christian Church will host an ice cream social this Sunday at 6 p.m. Members should bring their favorite topping or homemade ice cream.
    The church is located at the corner of First and Poplar streets.
     

  • All through the winter months, we have waited for spring and summer to arrive. We looked forward to the balmy days of spring and cool days of early summer.
