    Bill was comfortably sitting in his recliner chair Saturday, but had mentioned earlier not feeling very well.  As the day progressed, he was feeling worse and he suspected pneumonia, which he has experienced in the past.  

  • Return from Vacation
    Dane and Belinda Harpster of St. Peter and Ben, Amanda, Madison and Dru Eller of Jackson, Mo., all flew to Kennebunkport, Maine, on Saturday, July 9.
    They rented a house there, and did a lot of sightseeing, including the summer home of former President George and Barbara Busch.

  • Gavin Charles Pryor
    Braiden and Jade Pryor of Vandalia are the parents of a boy born at 8:39 p.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2016, at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

  • Elam
    The Elam family reunion will be held on Sunday, Aug. 7, at the Mulberry Grove Community Building.
    A potluck dinner will be held at noon.
    Those attending are asked to take a covered dish and their own table service.
     

  • The Fullerton Arboretum on the California State Fullerton campus was the location of the wedding uniting Bethany Hope JoAlice Barnes of Monrovia, Calif., and Josiah Westey Coloma of Claremont, Calif., on Sept. 19, 2015.

  • Eighteen members and eight guests met at the Ponderosa Steakhouse in Vandalia on June 30 for the monthly meeting and noon luncheon for ExxonMobil Annuitants Club.
    The pledge to the flag was given and then there was a moment of silence for member Bettye Sprayberry, who died on Monday, June 27. Brock Fisher asked the meal blessing.
    After the meal, President Dean Black opened the meeting with a welcome to members and guests. The secretary and treasurer report was read and approved.

  • First United Methodist Church in Vandalia is selling cookbooks that feature recipes collected from members and friends of the church.
    The cost is $15 per book, with proceeds applied to the church’s camping scholarships. The church has 23 young people sign up for church camp this year.

  • It has been said, “Time Marches On.” You can stop a clock, but you can’t stop time. It continues to march on without regard to our own time requirements.
