    Jacob Kelly and Alison Hanks of Vandalia are the parents of a girl born at 11:06 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2017, at HSHS Holy Family Hospital in Greenville.

    Lillian Mae weighed 6 pounds, 5 ounces, and was 19½ inches long.
    Grandparents are Donna and Wes Fitzwater of Vandalia, Steve and Julie Lach of Brownstown, and Scott Kelly of Ramsey.
    Great-grandparents are Ginny Wilber of Brownstown, Dorothy and Steve Lach of Vandalia, Elsie and Gerald Kelly of Ramsey, and Larry Wilber of Decatur.

  • Mr. and Mrs. Fred Cole of Vandalia will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Sept. 15.

  • Phyllis and Phillip Richards will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this Friday.

  • Amy (Luster) Pittenger is now a published author of a book, which gives credence to the adage that an author should write about a subject with which he or she is familiar.
    And Amy did just that.

  • Homestead Barn Critters
    Several readers have asked how the barn critters are doing in the hot summer, so, in answer to their inquiries – first, thank you all for your interest and for following them in the column.
    Bucky, the little cute burro, and his mentor, adviser and stablemate Lady, the little mini-mare and senior Homestead Critter, are doing fine in the hot, humid weather, as they have a window fan to cool them and discourage any flies.
