  • Lutherans living in Sharon and Hurricane townships organized the Jehovah Lutheran Church in what is now Shafter Township in 1879. Prior to 1913, Shafter Township was part of Sharon, and was identified as West Sharon Township.

    • The annual Fayette County School Children Art Show will be held April 21-25. It is sponsored by Artworks Gallery and will be held in the exhibit area above the Fayette County Museum at 301 W. Main St., Vandalia. Hours are 9:30 a.m.- 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and 1-4 p.m. on most Sundays.

  • Café First at Brownstown church

    Café First, a coffee house, will be held for the entire community from 7-9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 26, at First Christian Church in Brownstown, located at the corner of First and Poplar streets.
    The public is invited to stop by to enjoy a hot drink, breakfast snacks and some company. For more information, call 427-3687.

    Egg hunt Saturday in Brownstown

    Brownstown First Christian Church will host the annual Easter egg hunt at 2 p.m. this Saturday at Brownstown Park.

  • A full room of guests at First United Methodist Church in Vandalia received the welcome by the Rev. Roger Grimmett for the fifth Lenten Luncheon.
    Grimmett asked the blessing for the meal, which was prepared and served on white tablecloths adorned with napkins and placemats of spring colors and centerpieces of  fresh flowers.
