    Lucas and Jessica Levanti of West Frankfort are the parents of a girl born at 5:17 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.

  • George and Beverly Hipsher of Vandalia will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary with an open house hosted by their children and family from 2-4 p.m. this Sunday at Bethel Baptist Church rural Vandalia.

  • Richard and Doris Courson of St. Peter will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26, at the St. Peter American Legion Home, hosted by their children.
    Richard and the former Doris Rothe were married on Feb.  26, 1961, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church by the Rev. Martin L. Travis. Their attendants were Mary Lillian Virden and the late Dean Virden.

  • David and Debra Cearlock celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary on Monday, Feb. 14, 2011.
    David and the former Debra Goodin were married on Feb. 14, 1976, at First Baptist Church in Mulberry Grove.
    He is the son of the late Dewayne and Norma Cearlock of Vandalia. She is the daughter of Howard and Nelda Goodin of Mulberry Grove.
    They are the parents of two daughters: Angela and her husband Christopher Smith of Vandalia, and Staci and her husband Curtis Hampton of Greenville.

  • As February is traditionally the month for expressions of love, Wanda Puleo’s labor of love,  a gift  to her mother, seemed to be an appropriate valentine story this week.

    As the 100th birthday of Wanda Puleo’s mother, Ethel Pittman, approached, Wanda wanted to give a special, meaningful, gift to a very special, alert, mentally active and up-to-date lady.

  • The ExxonMobil Annuitants Club met on Jan. 27 at noon for their meeting and luncheon at Ponderosa Steakhouse in Vandalia.
    There were two guests and 20 members present for the meeting. Guests present were Jane Hammond and Sandy Dawes. The pledge to the flag was given,  followed by the meal prayer by Vera Miller.
    After the meal, the meeting was opened with a welcome. The secretary/treasurer reports for November were read and approved. Birthdays and anniversaries for December and January were read.

  • Monday, Feb. 14 – Baked ham, sweet potatoes, green beans, pears, cookie, whole grain bread.
    Tuesday, Feb. 15 – Taco salsa w/taco sauce, tortilla chips, meat and beans, lettuce, tomato, onions, shredded cheese, strawberries and bananas.
    Wednesday, Feb. 16 – Creamy baked chicken, parsley potatoes, mixed vegetables, fruit for salad, biscuit, birthday cake.
    Thursday, Feb. 17 – White bean chili, tuna salad sandwich, fresh tomatoes, peach crisp, crackers.

  • Betty Rubin
    Betty Rubin of St. Peter will celebrate her 80th birthday with an open house hosted by her children from 1:30-4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 20, at the American Legion Home in St. Peter.
    All friends and family are invited to attend. She requests no gifts.
     

  • Jasper Alexander Perry
    Ally Perry of Vandalia is the parent of a boy born at 10:13 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011, at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

    He weighed 7 pounds, 4 ounces and was 21 inches long. He was named Jasper Alexander.
    Grandparents are Jay and Sayona Perry of Vandalia.
    Great-grandparents are Jane Hall and Betty and Art Perry, all of Vandalia.
