  • Mayor Rick Gottman signed a proclamation declaring Saturday, June 11, as Cub Scout Pack 315 Day in Vandalia.

    The proclamation recognizes the benefits of Cub Scouting and the work of volunteers in Scouting. Gottman is shown Cub Scout Pack Leader Roy Garrett and his sons, Boy Scout Dylan Garrett and Cub Scout Drew Garrett.

  • Mayor Rick Gottman has signed a proclamation declaring this Saturday as Children's Miracle Network Day in Vandalia.

    On Saturday, employees of Wal-Mart will lead the effort to collect donations for the Children's Miracle Network. Hospitals affiliated with the CMN serve pediatric accident victims and children with all types of afflictions. Shown with Gottman is Cheryl Pollard, the local CMN coordinator.

  • Twenty-four members and three guests traveled to Litchfield to the Chinatown Restaurant for the monthly ExxonMobil Annuitants luncheon and meeting on Thursday, April 28.
    Following the pledge to the flag, Brock Fisher gave the meal prayer.
    After the meal, President Dean Black, opened the meeting with a welcome to all present, especially those who had not attended for sometime due to various reasons.
    Guests present were Stacey Langston, and Kenneth and Angela Hagen. The secretary/treasurer report was given, and approved as read.

  • Rachel Barnes of Fullerton, Calif. and David Peddie of lrvine, Calif., were united in marriage at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, in Newport Beach, Calif., at St. James Church.

    Rich and Danielle Matlock of Vandalia are the parents of girl born at 7:54 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 14, 2011, at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

  • Edwin and Margaret Adermann of Vandalia will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary this Sunday.
    Edwin Adermann and the former Lola Margaret Oberg were married on May 29, 1946, at the home of the Rev. A.C. Meir.
    Their attendants were August Adermann and the late Irene Rebbe.
    They are the parents of three children: Genny Matzker, Merle Adermann and Nori Pruitt.

  • Floyd and Donna Oertwig of St. Peter will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday at the American Legion Home in St. Peter.


    Floyd and the former Donna Storck were married on May 27, 1961, at St. Peter Lutheran Church by the late Rev. Martin Travis.
    They are the parents of two daughters: Cindy and her husband Greg Witto, and Debra and her husband Duane Fuller, both of Charleston.
    They have five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
