  • John and Donna VanUytven of Oconee will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with an open house hosted by their family from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, April 3, at the Oconee Legion Hall.

  • Forrest “Punk” and Joyce Kistler of Brownstown celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on March 18.


    Forrest is the son of the late Clarence and Dorothy Kistler, and the Joyce is the daughter of the late Mike and Mary Pelagio.
    They are the parents of three sons: Mike and his wife Nancy Kistler, and Ron and Larry Kistler, all of Brownstown.
    They have five grandchildren: Wes, Brooke, Lindsay, Andrew and Emille. They have one great-grandson, Maxx.
    They enjoyed a family dinner in honor of their anniversary.

  • Danielle Phillips and Adrian Corley were united in marriage at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011, at Overcup Baptist Church in Bluff City, with the Rev. Doug Wodtka officiating.

    The future bride is the daughter of Keith and Denise Kramer of Farina. Grandparents are Eugene and Marilyn Kramer of Farina, Harry and Mary Ann Deters and the late Madonna Deters of Sigel.

  • Jay and Sayona Perry of Vandalia will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary with an open house hosted by their family from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, April 2, at the First Baptist Church fellowship hall.

    A sizable crowd gathered at Temple Baptist Church on Saturday evening. They received a bonus musical blessing, following the welcome and prayer by the Rev. Loren File, when Russ Stewart of the Fourgiven Quartet introduced a young group named “No Hindrance.” Stewart's daughter, Chelsey, was the vocalist/guitarist, accompanied by guitarists Ryan Paine and Jacob Joliff.

  • Next Lenten Luncheon at St. James

    The Lenten Luncheon next Wednesday, March 30, will be held at St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church at noon.
    The speaker will be Al Schumacher. Special music will be played by a handbell quartet, directed by Dorothy Donley. Richard Tucker, pianist for Zion Lutheran Church in Loogootee, will provide music during the meal.
    Food for the meal is provided by members of St. James Lutheran, Zion Lutheran and First Presbyterian churches.
