  • Shulman
    The 47th annual Maurice Shulman family reunion was held June 22-26 in Vandalia.
    Celebrated with the reunion were Maurice’s 94th birthday (June 23) and Maurice’s grandson Joe’s recent master's degree graduation from Boston University (June 18).
    No births, deaths or marriages occurred in the family this past year.
    Twenty-seven of the 36 descendants of Maurice and Golda Shulman attended.

  • Marion and Roslyn Torbeck of Vernon will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Thursday, July 14.


    Marion Torbeck and the former Roslyn Meador were married on July 14, 1961, in Hagarstown.
    They are the parents of one son, Kent and his wife Debbie Torbeck of Shobonier.
    They have two grandchildren, Braden and Breanne.

  • Don Adams of Vandalia (center) receives a certificate and pin from Temperance Lodge No. 16 Worshipful Master Tim McMillan (left) and Chaplain Winfred "Bud" Morrison in recognition of his 50 years of membership in the Masonic fraternity. As a 50-year member, Adams is now exempt from any further dues payments.

  • Gretchen Schaible and Mitchell Smith, both of Brownstown, have announced their engagement and upcoming wedding.

  • Metro Church plans Kids Bible Kamp
    Metro Community Church will host a Kids Bible Kamp next Monday through Thursday at Rogier Park in Vandalia. The daily camp will run from 9 a.m. to noon for children from age 4 years through sixth grade.
    Under the theme of a "safari adventure," the event will include Bible stories, an obstacle course, sno cones, music and games.

  • Bond Christian Camp in Mulberry Grove hosted an all- day camp for first and second graders on Saturday, June 25.

  • Jeff Stone grew up in Vandalia, attended Bible college after graduating from Vandalia Community High School, and was later called to Israel to teach in a Christian school.
