    The fellowship room of St. James Lutheran Church was filled with the piano music of Richard Tucker as the guests  were entering, being seated and greeting friends at the third Lenten Luncheon on Wednesday, March 30.
    Mike Lewis, in the unavoidable absence of the Rev. Viktoria Halmagyi, welcomed those present, and invited them to join in singing  “Alas! And Did My Savior Bleed.” Lewis asked the blessing for the meal.

  • Paratrooper! There is something about that word that still excites me today. “Back in the day,” it meant being different from the rest of the Army. You were no longer just an ordinary “straight leg” soldier – you were a paratrooper! You wore highly shined jump boots with your Class “A” dress uniform.  You wore the highly coveted “silver jump wings” on your chest. And you wore the beret! Of course, now everyone in the Army wears a beret.

  • After many years of being miles apart, a brother and his two sisters were recently reunited after a phone call made by Marie Davis of Vandalia.
    Charles Carroll, Brenda Carroll Davis and Retta Carroll Evans were reunited in West Frankfort at the home of Dean and Brenda Davis.
    On March 19, a retirement dinner was held at the Davis home to honor Brenda’s husband, Dean, who was to retire on April 1 from the Illinois Department of Corrections after 25 years.

    Tuesday, April 12 – Turkey tetrazzini, green peas, glazed carrots, Jello with fruit, wheat bread.  

  • Staci Smithson of Altamont and Obie Farmer Jr. of New Baden have announced their engagement and upcoming wedding.

  • Herschel and Barbara Ambuehl of Farina will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with an open house hosted by their children and grandchildren from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, April 23, at the Farina United Methodist Church.

  • Alvin and JoAnn Roe of Pekin will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with a dinner party hosted by their family from 4-9 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, at Avanti’s Dome Banquet room in Pekin.
