  • Several months ago, two members of the Lawson family began researching their family history on ancestry.com from different areas in the United States.
    Through the wonders of the Internet and Facebook, they have connected and would like to connect with more of the extended family.
    Based on what family members have learned, they probably have relatives in each of the 50 states.
    Therefore, there will be a Lawson family reunion, on Saturday, July 28, at St. James Lutheran Church, located at 727 W. Gallatin St., Vandalia.

    PFC Kristin R. Davison entered the U.S. Army on Aug. 8, 2011, and completed basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C. on Oct. 20, 2011.

  • St. James, Zion to hold service at lake

    St. James Lutheran and Zion Lutheran churches will hold a joint service at Vandalia Lake on Sunday, June 24.
    The 10:30 a.m. service will be held at the Lions Pavilion, and will be followed by a potluck meal.
    Participants are asked to bring a covered dish and table service.

    Lesters' concert set for Fourth of July

    The Lesters of St. Louis will appear in concert at the Fourth of July  celebration at Lake Hillsboro. They will perform at 8 p.m.

    The program manager for this outreach meeting was Beverly Hood. She introduced singers Judy Varga and Randy Schukar, who would perform later.
    The refreshments of cookies and tea were provided by Retha Burnam and Priscilla Roeder. Bernie Ray played the piano while everyone enjoyed their refreshments and visited; with 10 tables full of people visiting and catching up from last week, it does take a while to catch up on things.

  • Visit Daughter
    Dane and Belinda Harpster of St. Peter spent the weekend with their daughter, Mahala Harpster of Gray Summit, Mo.
    On Saturday, they took a tour of Purina Farms and finished the day shopping in Chesterfield.
    On Sunday, they attended a fish fry hosted by the uncle of Nathan Jacquin to celebrate Mahala’s birthday.

    Saturday evening worship attendance was 121. Acolyte was Logan Lotz.

    Wednesday, June 20
    • The Artworks Gallery Amateur Town and Country Art and Professional Art Show that started June 16 will continue through this Sunday at the Fayette County Museum, Vandalia. Hours are 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday through Saturday; and 1-4 p.m. on Sundays.
    • The St. Elmo Board of Education regular meeting, 7:30 p.m., unit office.
    Thursday, June 21
    • The Vit-Em-In Sunday school Class potluck, 6 p.m., Fellowship Hall of First United Methodist Church.

  • Virginia “Ginny” Wilbur recently received word that her sister, Alice (Fisher) Thompson had been honored for one of her short stories.
