  • Lucille Smith
    Lucille Smith of Vandalia will celebrate her 95th birthday on Monday, Oct. 3.


    She has three children: Jon Smith of Sherman, Pat Frost of Gainesville, Fla., and Pam Sapp of Livermoore, Colo.
    She has four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
     

  • Jancye Paine of Vandalia and Nathan Hortenstine of Ramsey have announced their engagement and upcoming wedding.

  • Lester and Jean Devall of Vandalia will celebrate their 55th wedding anniversary on Friday, Sept. 30.

  • Madeline Cade, Audrey K. Myers and Hope Budny-Clymer are best friends and schoolmates at Fayette Christian Academy in Vandalia.

  • Volleyball Tournament
    Belinda Harpster accompanied Stacey and Haley Bergmann to Belleville, where the Lady Saints Volleyball team competed in the Holly Reeb Tournament.
    The girls finished in sixth place. They are now coached by Kristi Kraemer and Cassy Chapman. After coaching for 28 years, Larry Urban retired in June.
    Wedding
    Zachary Guerrettaz and Sara White were married on Saturday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in St. Peter. The couple resides in Park City, Ky.

  • 'See You at the Pole' events Wednesday

    Students at Vandalia Junior High School and Vandalia Community  High School will be holding "See You at the Pole" prayer observances next Wednesday at 8 a.m.
    At the junior high, the event will be held on the playground. At the high school, it will be on the front steps of the school building. The VCHS event is sponsored by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

    Some here at Evergreen Outreach call this their favorite time of the year. One lady remarked, “After the rains came, I saw a hint of colors on trees and bushes.”
    As the guests arrived, they noticed a beautiful floral arrangement, which was a special tribute to a special lady, Mrs. Helen Ray. Her 107th birthday will occur on Wednesday.
    Also celebrating birthdays were Erma Cameron, Sarah Laurie, Donald Macarthur and Brenda Reese.
