Today's Features

  • Callie,  the Kitty…
    …seems to be feeling the heat now. She has insisted on going out on these hot days, even running  out between our feet on occasion.
    She seemed to prefer relaxing on the shed roof or on the deck, often in the sun. When we tried to get her in the cool house, she refused.
    However, yesterday, she came in looking like she had burrowed in the dirt, something she had never done before. Her face, chest, and both front legs and feet were dirty.

  • Thomas “Tom” Sutton, who completed his freshman year at Vandalia Community High School in the spring, was one of only eight chosen from the state of Illinois to attend the coveted 2012 NASA WINGS Camp.

  • Alayna Sue VonBehren
    Seth and Meredith VonBehren of Troy are the parents of a girl born at 2:48 a.m. on June 28, 2012, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.
    She weighed 7 pounds, and was 20 inches long. She was named Alayna Sue.
    Grandparents are Allan and Sheri VonBehren of Shobonier, Kenny and Kristy Arnold of Shobonier, and Sonny Banal of Vandalia.
    Great-grandparents are Carrol Dugan of Shobonier, and Julius and Mary Ellen Banal of Vandalia.
     

  • Dana Kirk and Craig Kern, both of Vandalia, have announced their engagement and upcoming marriage.

  • Dean and Pat Roberts of Vandalia recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary with a family trip to Tan-Tar-A Resort in Osage Beach, Mo.

  • Jo Carruthers and Travis Towler, both of Vandalia, have announced their engagement and upcoming marriage.


    The future bride is the daughter of Dan and Debbie Carruthers of Ramsey.
    She is a 2006 graduate of Ramsey High School.
    The future groom is the son of Marcia Barringer of Brownstown and Dudley Gathe of Effingham.
    He is a 2003 graduate of Brownstown High School.
    The couple are planning an Aug. 25 wedding at Oak Terrace in rural Pana. A reception will follow at the American Legion Home in Vandalia, with food served at 5:30 p.m.

  • The new officers of Soroptimist International of Vandalia for 2012-14 were recently installed.
