  • Death
    Robert L. King died on Aug. 26, 2011, in his home in Alton.  A private family burial was held in St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery on Thursday of this week.
    Mr. King was born April 17, 1945 in St. Peter, the son of Jesse and Vera (Niehaus) King.

  • Kadi Jackson, 10, recently donated 10 inches of her hair to the Locks of Love Foundation while having her hair cut at Shear Dezigns Tanning and Salon.

    Locks of Love is a public, non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged individuals under the age of 21 who are suffering from long-term hair loss due to medical conditions. Others who may be interested in participating the program may call 283-3953.

  • On Sunday, Aug. 14, Fayette County 4-H’ers had the opportunity to show off their talents at the Illinois State Fair.  
    Results include:
    • Emily Aderman exhibited in fiber and received an Award of Excellence.
    • Kayla Black exhibited in photo editing and received an Award of Excellence.
    • Iris Daiber exhibited in nature and received an Award of Excellence.
    • Isaac Daiber exhibited in woodworking II and received a Superior.
    • Courtney Howard exhibited in clay and received an Award of Excellence.

  • Karli Waddell and Seth Kruenegel, both of Vandalia, have announced their engagement and upcoming wedding.

  • Sara White and Zac Guerrettaz, both of Park City, Ky., have announced their engagement and upcoming wedding.

  • Jim and Catherine Bowen of Vandalia will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary this Friday.
    Jim Bowen and the former Catherine Pettie were married on Sept. 9, 1961, at the Free Methodist Church in Vandalia, with the Rev. Vernon Parsons officiating. Their attendants were Sam Grotts of Pana and Susan Ober Lager of Yukon, Okla.
    They are the parents of three children: Steve, Cathy and Quinn all of Vandalia.
    They have six grandchildren: Stephanie Bowen of Effingham, and Bailey and Cassidy Jones, and Jake, James and Quincy Bowen, all of Vandalia.

  • Ramsey series planned at Parkview

    A preview meeting for Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University series will be held this Sunday evening at 6 p.m. at Parkview Free Methodist Church in Vandalia.
    The 13-week series will be held at 6 p.m. Sundays at the church. The first two classes (Sept. 11 and 18) are free and open to the public. The series is part of a national campaign called “The Great Recovery.”
    The average participating family pays off $5,300 in debt and saves $2,700 during the course.
