  • If we embrace Jesus, he will make us clean

    “Be clean!,” says Jesus.
    The word is spreading – Jesus is coming to town. A leper, out of desperation, is going to see Jesus. Lepers were forbidden to enter into the towns and cities. They were forbidden to worship in the temple or synagogues due to their serious illness. In fact, they were forced to live away from their families and anyone considered to be clean.
    Separated from everyone,  they were commanded to call out the phrase, “Unclean! Unclean!,” when they approached someone.

    Brownstown block party is Saturday

    A block party will be held this Saturday in Brownstown City Park from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

    Sponsored by First Baptist Church of Brownstown, the event will include activities for all ages, prizes and refreshments.

    'Blessing of Animals' to be held Sunday

    St. James Lutheran Church will hold a "Blessing of the Animals" at 4 p.m. this Sunday in the church courtyard.

  • Evergreen Outreach-Sept. 30, 2010

    What a beautiful day we had on Monday to celebrate Evergreen Outreach!
    It was EO’s last day, for a time, to meet in the Long Term Care facility at Fayette County Hospital. It has been a lovely experience for EO participants and volunteers, and everyone appreciated so much the use of the facility.
    The word is out that “we will return!” Not regularly; but, hopefully, on occasion.

    Jason and Laura Martin of Powhaton, Va., are the parents of a girl born on Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010.
    She weighed 8 pounds, 9 ounces. She was named Clair Elizabeth.
    She has one brother, 3-year-old Luke.
    Grandparents are Woody and Marilyn Fisher of Amelia, Va. Great-grandmother is Lucille Fisher of Brownstown.

    The descendants of Benjamin and Millie Hunter held their family reunion on Sunday, Sept. 12, at the Lions Club pavilion at Vandalia Lake, with more than 100 in attendance.

    Brittany Krutsinger of Kinmundy and Cameron White of Vandalia were united in marriage on Saturday, June 12, 2010, at First United Methodist Church in Vandalia, with the Rev. Roger Grimmett officiating.
    The bride is the daughter of Kim and Daniel Cousineau of Kinmundy, and Michael Krutsinger of Mt. Vernon.
    She chose her friend, Leah Lane, as her maid of honor, and the groom’s sister, Keely Burns, as her matron of honor.
    Bridesmaids were Tiffany Robison, cousin of the bride; and Sarah Webster and Ashley Wooden, friends of the bride.

  • Swofford – 50 Years

    Harold and Judy LaDuke Swofford of Pittsburg will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house hosted by their children from 2-5 p.m. this Sunday at the Vandalia Country & Golf Club.
    They have three children: Kathy, Curt and Sandy; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
    Those attending are welcome to stay after the party and purchase their dinner at the country club.
