    When entering Evergreen Outreach on Monday, I was about 30 minutes early, and already, Softfire (David and Patricia Pence) was singing and playing.
    Using the many instruments they play, it was a beautiful quiet time for me. Their voices blended on “God of Israel,” “People Need the Lord,” “Amazing Grace” and other songs. I do believe they sing better each time I hear them.

  • Life has been so created and ordained by God that it is an active process. It is either growing or dying, one of the two. Nothing that has life stays the same. It is in the process of either growing or dying.

  • Cameron Parker Hummel
    John and Emily Hummel of Chatham are the parents of a boy born at 8:14 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2011, at Springfield Memorial Hospital in Springfield.


    He weighed 9 pounds, 11½ ounces, and was 21 inches long. He was named Cameron Parker.
    He has one brother, 20-month-old Ashton.
    Grandparents are Rich and Debby Frailey of Altamont. Great-grandparents are Dennis and Evelyn Meseke, and Mary Frailey, all of Shobonier.

  •  Thursday, Sept. 29 – Tuna salad, broccoli salad, pickled beets, cantaloupe, whole grain bread.
    Friday, Sept. 30 – Lasagna roll up w/meat sauce, tossed salad, pears, golden glow and garlic bread.
    Monday, Oct. 3 – Pork chops, scalloped potatoes, spinach, banana, oatmeal raisin cookie and whole wheat bread.
    Tuesday, Oct. 4 – Potato soup, ham sandwich, four-bean salad, oranges and crackers.
    Wednesday, Oct. 5 – Roast turkey, dressing, green beans, sweet potatoes, fruit cocktail in jello and whole grain bread.

  • Lucille Smith
    Lucille Smith of Vandalia will celebrate her 95th birthday on Monday, Oct. 3.


    She has three children: Jon Smith of Sherman, Pat Frost of Gainesville, Fla., and Pam Sapp of Livermoore, Colo.
    She has four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
     

  • Jancye Paine of Vandalia and Nathan Hortenstine of Ramsey have announced their engagement and upcoming wedding.

  • Lester and Jean Devall of Vandalia will celebrate their 55th wedding anniversary on Friday, Sept. 30.

  • Madeline Cade, Audrey K. Myers and Hope Budny-Clymer are best friends and schoolmates at Fayette Christian Academy in Vandalia.

  • Volleyball Tournament
    Belinda Harpster accompanied Stacey and Haley Bergmann to Belleville, where the Lady Saints Volleyball team competed in the Holly Reeb Tournament.
    The girls finished in sixth place. They are now coached by Kristi Kraemer and Cassy Chapman. After coaching for 28 years, Larry Urban retired in June.
    Wedding
    Zachary Guerrettaz and Sara White were married on Saturday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in St. Peter. The couple resides in Park City, Ky.
