    What a gorgeous day! Seems it would be a day to plant flowers, but I’m told one must wait until Mother’s Day. Surely, we will not have frost or snow after such a beautiful March. The dandelions don’t wait!
    David and Patricia Pence welcomed us with music. David said that since Palm Sunday will be this coming Sunday, and Easter will be the following Sunday, that their music would be related to the Easter season.

  • A woman and her husband interrupted their vacation to go to a dentist. “I want a tooth pulled, and I don’t want novocaine because I’m in a big hurry,” the woman said.

  • The Vandalia Modern Woodmen of American chapter recently donated $250 worth of canned food to the Fayette County Food Pantry as part of the organization’s Care and Share Program.
    Coordinated by local Modern Woodmen members, chapters provide opportunities to connect through social activities and volunteer projects.
    Care and Share is a nationwide program that offers Modern Woodmen chapters an opportunity to provide up to $250 of basic life necessities to individuals and families in need in their communities.

  • Michael Wayne Logue and Devyn Rosabeth Holman, both of St. Elmo, have announced their engagement and upcoming marriage.

  • Denise Renee Fornoff and Eric Michael Telger, both of Collinsville, were united in marriage in a 3 p.m. ceremony on Sept. 10, 2011, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Collinsville, with the Revs. Michael Walther and Doug Meyer officiating.

  • Isla Christine McConkey
    Matthew and Kathy McConkey of Vandalia are the parents of a girl born at 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 18, 2012, at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Centralia.

  • Edna Ilene Sidwell
    A card shower has been requested for Edna Ilene Sidwell, who will celebrate her 89th birthday on April 3.

    Sunday morning worship attendance was 207. The organist was the Rev. Alan Holtz.
    Elders were Charlie Wachholz and Paul Reynolds.
    Maundy Thursday service will be held on April 5 at 7 p.m. The Good Friday service will held on Friday, April 6, at 7 p.m. An Easter sunrise service will be at 6 a.m. The LYF will host a breakfast following the sunrise service.
