  • The Vandalia Rotary Club recently hosted to a lunch the volunteers who have helped at the club's quarterly blood drives for the past several years.

    Many of those volunteers are members of the American Legion Auxiliary. Pictured, from left, are Alvena Noffsinger, Linda Rhodes, Amy Meseke, George Meseke, Katie Schukar and Dolores Michel.   • Audrey Talmage of New Bern, N.C., and Mark McElroy of Fairview Heights, were united in marriage on Saturday, June 4, 2011, in New Bern, N.C.


    The bride is the daughter of Timothy and Candice Talmage of New Bern, N.C. The groom is the son of James and Wilma McElroy of Shobonier.
    The couple resides in Fairview Heights.

  • Phil and Imogene Bunyard of Vandalia will celebrate their 50th anniversary on Friday, July 1.

  • When she was a young girl living in England years ago, Anne Eddings brought home every stray cat to care for. Years later, when she was living in the United States, in Missouri, she found herself taking in and caring for wild animals that had been injured or left motherless.

  • The Final three contestants have been chosen for the first annual Vandalia Idol competition, sponsored by Soroptimist of Vandalia.

  • Bible camp set for next week at Overcup
    Overcup Baptist Church will host a Bible camp for children ages of 4-12 next Monday through Friday.
    The camp runs from 6-8:30 p.m. each evening.
    Among the activities planned are daily Bible adventures, crafts, music and snacks.
     
    VBS 'Beach Bash' to be held at Kaskaskia
    A Vacation Bible School Beach Bash will be held the weekend of June 24-26 at Kaskaskia Church in northeast Fayette County.
    The VBS is open to children from 4 years through sixth grade.

    Evergreen Outreach brought lots of smiles on Monday.
    There were songs, balloons, regular jokes, "knock, knock" jokes and devotionals – something for everyone!
    Donna Smith was back to play the piano as guests arrived. It's so good to have her back to play once a month for us. Some of her tunes were: "How Much is That Doggie in the Window?," "Anchors Aweigh," "He's Too Fat for Me" and "The Lily of the Valley."

  • On Sunday, May 22, three young people and three adults were recently received into communicant membership at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. They are, front row from left, Carol Klitzing, Samuel Opfer, Haelé Ruble and Ryan Fiscus. In the back row, from left, are Chris Klitzing, the Rev. Peter Kolb, the Rev. Jerry Bagwell and Randy Fiscus.

  • Recently, a pastor and his small flock made the news by announcing the date of the second coming of Jesus Christ. They were so sure of the date that many of his followers gave away their possessions, quit their day jobs and “hunkered down” in anticipation of the Parousia – the second coming of the Lord.
