  • Pvt. Eric S. Halleman
    Army National Guard Pvt. Eric S. Halleman has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.

  • Amanda Kay Patterson and Shaye Michael Pommer, both of Mulberry Grove, were united in marriage in a double-ring ceremony at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3, at Hazlet State Park in Carlyle, with Haron Denton of Vandalia officiating.

  • Thursday, Nov. 10 – Potato soup, ham sandwich, kidney bean salad, banana and crackers.
    Friday, Nov. 11 – Closed for Veteran’s Day.
    Monday, Nov. 14 – Barbecue pork on bun, au gratin potatoes, baked beans and pineapple chunks.
    Tuesday, Nov. 15 – Spaghetti w/meat sauce, pea salad, tossed salad w/dressing, mandarin oranges and garlic bread.  
    Wednesday, Nov. 16 – Vegetable soup, egg salad sandwich, crackers, apple cabbage slaw and birthday cake.

  • Porter
    The annual Porter reunion was held on Sept. 19 at Ramsey Lake State Park.
    A potluck meal was served at 12:30 p.m., and the afternoon included visiting, taking photographs, playing bingo and going over the history of the Wellington and Sarah Porter families.
    The reunion officers remained the same. A candy jar was passed around to guess how many pieces were in it; Dale Porter was the winner.

  • Amanda and Brian Walk recently presented a donation of $12,790.15 to Dr. David H. Gutmann, director of the Neurofibromatosis Center at the Washington University School of Medicine.

  • Brailee Lynn Lockart
    Sean Lockart and April Tackett of Vandalia are the parents of a girl born at 4:24 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 26, 2011, at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

  • Marcy Richards of Vandalia and Aaron Jones of Effingham have announced their engagement and upcoming wedding.

  • Natasha Nicole Barker and Justin Eugene Elmore were united in marriage on July 9, 2011, at Bethel Baptist Church in rural Vandalia.

    The bride is the daughter of Steve and Michele Barker of Vandalia.
    She chose her sister, Jessica Levanti, as her matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Ember Barnhart, Kristin Charlesworth and Jamie Elmore.
    The groom chose Jeff Ray, Ty Freeland, Clint Brown and Brandt Summers as his best men. Ushers were Kyle Barker and Egan McClary.
    Libby Watson was the flower girl, and Parker Ray was the ring bearer.

  • Bill and Betty Springman of Brownstown will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Nov. 18.
