  • Earl Hovious
    An open house celebration in observance of the 91st birthday of Earl Hovious will be held from 1:30-3:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, at First Christian Church in Brownstown.

    All family members and friends are invited to attend the open house.

  • Kelly Delicath and Blake Houghtaling, both of Indianapolis, Ind., have announced their engagement and upcoming marriage.

  • Megan Chappel of Aurora and Kyle Miller of Naperville have announced their engagement and upcoming marriage.

  • Carolyn Faye Taylor of Vandalia and Gordon Ray Thacker of Mulberry Grove were united in marriage in a double-ring ceremony at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, at Temple Baptist Church in rural Vandalia, with the Rev. Joe Lawson officiating.

  • He works at McCarty’s Auto Body by day. He likes his job and enjoys the “music” of his daytime occupation.

  • Last week’s story about the mysterious quilt found in a bag in a closet of Brownstown house has stirred up some interest, answers, more questions and more interesting stories to follow up on.

  • ‘Cow Eyes’ Being Made in the Homestead Pasture
    One of the  heifer youngsters, Minny, and neighbor Scott’s bull (which we now call “Romeo”) are making cow eyes at each other, but unfortunately (for them) they are separated by the lane and two electric fences. They were also communicating verbally with forlorn-sounding calls.

  • Visit Grandchildren
    Dane and Belinda Harpster of St. Peter spent the weekend with their grandchildren, Madison and Dru Eller of Jackson, Mo., while their parents were out of town.
    On Saturday, they attended Madison’s basketball game.
    On Sunday, they all visited with Mitch, Gretchen and Owen Harpster of Cape Girardeau, Mo.
    Birth
    Ryan and Donna Gullion of Effingham are the parents of twin boys born on Feb. 10, 2013.
    Jaxson Reece weighed 6 pounds, 10 ounces, and Jayden Dean weighed 6 pounds, 5.5 ounces. Both were 19 inches long.
