  • Wilma Kruger, a life-long resident of the area, doesn’t recall when she began entering the competitions at the Fayette County Fair; she only remembers that it has been many years.

  • The ExxonMobil Annuitants Club met on Thursday, June 28, at Ponderosa Steakhouse in Vandalia for its monthly meeting and luncheon.
    After the pledge to the flag, Brock Fisher gave the meal prayer. Thirty members and four guests were present.
    After the meal, President Dean Black called the meeting to order with the announcement of two new members: Roger and Becky Bergman of Litchfield.
    The secretary and treasurer report was given and approved. Birthdays and anniversaries for June were read.

  • Elam
    The 74th annual Elam reunion will be held on Sunday, Aug. 5, at the Mulberry Grove Community Building.
    A potluck lunch will be held at noon. Those attending are asked to take a covered dish to share and their own table service.

    Grubaugh
    The descendants of Sam and Clara Grubaugh met Sunday, July 1, in Rogier Park in Vandalia.
    Twenty-nine were in attendance for the noon potluck. Charles Britt offered the prayer before the meal.
    Traveling the farthest was Rick Grubaugh, of Melvindale, Mich.

  • Krystn Foor and Lance Buzzard have announced their engagement and upcoming marriage.

  • Carolyn Taylor of Vandalia and Gordon Thacker of Mulberry Grove have announced their engagement and upcoming marriage.

  • Mr. and Mrs. John “Red” Jennings of Louisville, Ky., formerly of the Fayette County area, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on July 30.


    John Jennings of Beecher City and Sharon Ernest of St. Elmo were married on July 30, 1962.
    They have two daughters: Tammy and her husband Kenny, and Lisa and her husband David, both of Louisville, Ky.; and two granddaughters, Sarah and Macie.

  • Crown Point to hold VBS next week

    Crown Point Church will host Vacation Bible School next Monday through Saturday from 6-8:15 p.m. daily.
    Under the theme of "Amazing Desert Journey – Where Jesus Leads Us Home," the program is open to children from the ages of 3 to 12. Activities include Bible lessons, music, crafts, recreation and snacks.
    The Saturday session will be a family night, which includes a picnic meal and activities for the children. It also begins at 6 p.m.

    If you’ve been suffering from the heat wave and drought, you should have come to Evergreen Outreach this week at Fayette County Hospital. We were all most abundantly refreshed and rewarded.
    Beverly Hood started the program, while we passed out cookies from Pam Baker – wonderful chocolate chip cookies that were slightly warm. Yum! And if that wasn’t enough goodness, Phyllis Thoman was tickling the ivory keys, producing beautiful notes to cheer us all up.
