  • Christopher J. LaMacchia
    Navy Seaman Apprentice Christopher J. LaMacchia, son of Carla J. White and John C. LaMacchia, both of Mulberry Grove, was recently promoted to his current rank upon graduation from recruit training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
    LaMacchia received the early promotion for outstanding performance during all phases of the training cycle.
    Training included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety.

  • Mayor Rick Gottman signed a proclamation declaring October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Vandalia.

The proclamation was signed to help raise the public's awareness of domestic violence issues, and the programs and services available to assist victims of domestic violence.

  • Cody and Jordan Brummet of Ramsey are the parents of a boy born at 1:34 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011, at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.


    He weighed 8 pounds, 7 ounces, and was 20 inches long. He was named Easton Randall.
    Grandparents are Jerry and Cathy Brummet, and Randy and Kim Kelly, all of Ramsey.
    Great-grandparents are Clyde and Louise Brummet of Nokomis, Ray and Caroline Roe of Ramsey, Jerry and Elsie Kelly of Ramsey, and the late Mary Reed and Earl Thompson of Pana.
     

  • Rachel Clark and Trevor Elam have announced their engagement and upcoming wedding.

  • Jodi Fry of Moscow Mills, Mo., and Josh Roberts of Vandalia were united in marriage on Saturday, July 9, 2011.

  • Rebecca Ann Logue and David Anthony Dunn were united in marriage on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011, in Brownstown, with the Rev. John Heicher and David Arnold officiating.


    The bride is the daughter of Jim and Sherri Dagen of Brownstown, and Mike and Jo Ellen Logue of Greenville.
    The tgroom is the son of Elizibeth Faye Dunn of Vandalia.
    The couple resides in Vandalia.
     

  • It was 25 years ago on Nov. 1 that the Rev. Dan Rush arrived in Vandalia to pastor the Bethel Baptist Church, bringing his wife, Kathy, and their two young children, Brittany, age 4, and Micah, age 2.

  • Marriage

    Shawn Meyer of Mt. Vernon and Sarah Kash of Mt. Vernon were married on Oct. 8 at Hazel Dell Free Will Baptist Church in Sesser.

    Shawn is the son of Bob Meyer and Sharon Boyles. Sarah is the daughter of Randall and Debra Kash. The couple resides in Mt. Vernon.

  • Longhorn Cattle Stampede
    The “Longhorn Ladies” (Betsy, the Bartels girl, “Geneva,” “Red” and the youngsters) have been content this summer on their pasture, and have not complained or looked at the grass on the proverbial “other side of the fence.”
    However, when we started south down the lane with a few bales of hay Saturday, they began running along side the fence. They must have smelled the hay and broke into a run to get to it. (I don’t blame them; I like the smell of it myself, but not well enough to eat it.)
