    A Sudden, Startling, Blood-Curdling Scream…
    …erupted right at our feet the other night while we were peacefully (and drowsily) watching a TV show, scaring us almost out of our wits and sending Josie, the 12-year-old “puppy” into a frenzy.
    It was just Callie, the (former) woods cat, when she apparently saw some unidentified predator at the patio screen door.

  • Visit Children
    Dane and Belinda Harpster of St. Peter spent the weekend with their daughter, Mahala Harpster of Gray Summit, Mo.
    On Saturday, Mahala gave them a small tour at her job at Land O’ Lakes/Purina Farms. The remainder of the day was spent shopping and visiting a couple of wineries.

    • All schools in Fayette County have been contacted for the students to submit art work for the Fayette County Art Show, which starts on Thursday and runs through Monday in the upper level at the Fayette County Museum, Vandalia. The Fayette County Museum is open from 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and from 1-4 p.m. on Sundays.

  • Continuing along the discovery of Downtown Vandalia’s new shops, we visit the newest along the beat, Ali Marie’s on Gallatin, which is stocking quality, tasteful and attractive fashions for both men and women.

  • Bankester Family to play at Liberty  

    The Bankester Family will perform at Liberty Christian Church in rural Brownstown on April 15 at the 10 a.m. worship service and at a 6 p.m. concert.
    The group plays bluegrass-style  music, performed with instruments such as the banjo, fiddle, violin and mandolin.

    What a gorgeous day! Seems it would be a day to plant flowers, but I’m told one must wait until Mother’s Day. Surely, we will not have frost or snow after such a beautiful March. The dandelions don’t wait!
    David and Patricia Pence welcomed us with music. David said that since Palm Sunday will be this coming Sunday, and Easter will be the following Sunday, that their music would be related to the Easter season.

  • A woman and her husband interrupted their vacation to go to a dentist. “I want a tooth pulled, and I don’t want novocaine because I’m in a big hurry,” the woman said.

  • The Vandalia Modern Woodmen of American chapter recently donated $250 worth of canned food to the Fayette County Food Pantry as part of the organization’s Care and Share Program.
    Coordinated by local Modern Woodmen members, chapters provide opportunities to connect through social activities and volunteer projects.
    Care and Share is a nationwide program that offers Modern Woodmen chapters an opportunity to provide up to $250 of basic life necessities to individuals and families in need in their communities.
