  • Iris Daiber of Vandalia graduated from the American Legion Youth Police Program on June 29. Daiber was sent to the program by Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 of Vandalia.

  • Shepard
    Descendants of the late John Harlen and Mary Etta (Stone) Shepard gathered at Patoka Christian Church in Patoka on May 26 for a carry-in dinner.
    Twenty-seven members of the family attended the reunion. Diane Arnold offered the blessing for the meal.

  • Children of William and Sophia Ehrat recently enjoyed a reunion in Vandalia with their sister, Dorothea Albright (seated).

  • Buzzard
    On Sunday, Aug. 12, descendants of Daniel and Mary Elizabeth Frazier Buzzard held a reunion at the Greenland Baptist Church in the new Fellowship Hall at Beecher City. At least 110 descendants and friends attended.
    The church was founded and built on one acre of land donated by Daniel and Mary Elizabeth Buzzard 153 years ago.
    Shirley Gregg Hall and Carol Buzzard Bell greeted everyone at the registration table, having all sign in and giving everyone name tags for names and designating which child of Daniel and Mary’s they descended from.

  • Ella Karyne & Kaly Grace Benning
    Matthew and Tina Benning of St. Peter are the parents of twin daughters born on Aug. 1, 2012.
    Ella Karyne weighed 5 pounds, 1 ounce, and was 18 inches long, and Kaly Grace weighed 5 pounds, 7 ounces, and was 17½ inches long.
    They have a brother, Marcus, age 3½.

  • Mr. and Mrs. Al Niemeyer of St. Elmo will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Sunday, Sept. 2, with an open house from 2-4 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Elmo.

  • Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Newburn will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Sept. 7.


    Ronald Newburn and Barbara Young were married on Sept. 7, 1962, at Macedonia Christian Church in rural St. Elmo. Their attendants were Edwin Mattix of St. Elmo and Marjorie (Young) Daugherty of Louisville, Ill.
    The couple will celebrate their anniversary at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 7, at Macedonia Christian Church.
    Family members, friends and neighbors are invited to attend.
     

  • The OASIS members and friends of First Baptist Church in Vandalia have been enjoying a variety of activities.
    In March, Mary Truitt presented a program titled "Museum in a Suitcase." Included were many items from the Vandalia Museum and information regarding each item. She is very knowledgeable about Vandalia, Fayette County  and the Vandalia Museum.
    In April, some members attended Jubilee (an event featuring gospel music and preaching, held in Branson, Mo.).
