  • More than 100 members and guests enjoyed the annual Ladies' Spring Banquet last Thursday at First Baptist Church.

  • A Funny Thing Happened…
    …as friend, Flo Allen , and I were having a telephone conversation.
    All of a sudden, in mid-sentence, she exclaimed, “Oh My!,” in a rather distressed voice.
    Fearing some terrible happening, I asked what was the matter and she replied, “A big mother ‘possum just went past my window with six baby opossums on her back.” I asked her to be merciful towards them, because, after all, we just observed Mother’s Day.

  • Visits Daughter
    Belinda Harpster of St. Peter spent the weekend with her daughter, Mahala Harpster of Gray Summit, Mo.
    On Friday evening, they went to Chesterfield and dined at the Old Spaghetti Factory and then shopped at Chesterfield Mall.
    On Saturday, they shopped and visited area wineries.
    On Sunday morning, Mahala took Belinda out for Mother’s Day brunch.
    Adam and Molly Braun of Vandalia are the parents of a son, born on May 7, 2012.
    He has been named Harrison Randal.

  • Parker Steven Daniels
    Jaclyn and Mitch Daniels of rural Vandalia are the parents of a boy born at 1:07 p.m. on April 17, 2012, at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

  • The Rev. Kevin Wendorf of Onarga and Barbara Torbeck have announced their engagement and upcoming marriage.

  • On May 4, 1952, Kenneth Hall and Betty Roe walked across the road from her parents’ home to Hurricane Church and were married by the Rev. Warren Littleford.
