  • Cowgirls enjoying lush pasture
    Although we kind of bemoan the fact sometimes when the frequent rains make the grass grow faster and it is difficult to keep up with, the four Homestead “cowgirls” (namely Bill’s longhorns-Geneva, the Bartels girl; “Red,” the mother of one of the two kids, Minnie and Moo-na-Lisa) seem to like it.

  • Spends Weekend with Grandparents
    Henry Harpster, age 5 months, of Jackson, Mo., spent the weekend with grandparents Dane and Belinda Harpster of St. Peter. Those who came to visit Henry were Mahala and Harper Jacquin, Stacey and JoHanna Bergmann, and Sue Adams.

    Worship attendance on Sunday morning was 168.

    Acolyte was Mitchell Brauer.

  • The name Lawler has been a very familiar and respected name in the Vandalia, as Nelson Lawler was the first school bus driver for the Vandalia schools, and he was very well liked by all who knew him, including the students on his bus routes.

  • Rubin
    The biennial Rubin reunion will be held on Sunday, Aug. 7, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church parish hall in St. Paul.
    A potluck dinner begins at 12:30 p.m., with beverages, paper plates and tableware being furnished.
    Those attending are asking to take lists of births, deaths and marriages since the 2014 reunion, so that the family tree may be updated, and are asked to notify all family members.

    The Herman Dothager Family reunion was held on July 4 at Rogier Park in Vandalia with 56 attending.

    Todd and Shelley Metzger of Vandalia are the parents of a boy born at 4:47 p.m. on July 17, 2016, at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.

  • Alexandra Perry and Brian Huhnke, both of Vandalia, have announced their engagement and upcoming wedding.
