    The Hoffman family reunion was held on June 15 in Rogier Park in Vandalia, with five families represented, those of Leonard, Harry, Edmund, Arnold and Raymond.
    Member of Albert’s family present were: Evelyn Probst of Ramsey; Connie Weller of Bethalto; Gail Greer of O’Fallon and Gary Probst of Long Beach, Calif.; May Della Probst of Bingham; and Bill and Rhonda Jacobs of Chatham.

  • The ExxonMobil Annuitants Club met on June 26 at Ponderosa Steakhouse in Vandalia.
    Twenty-one members and four guests were present. President Dean Black welcomed all members and guests, followed by the pledge of allegiance. Black gave the blessing.
    The secretary and treasurer reports were read and approved.
    Birthdays and anniversaries for June were read.
    Health updates were given and members signed two cards for members who are ill.
    The Deeds Awards were handed out to members who had 50 hours or more of volunteer time for the 2013 club year.

  • Ross and Lila Whitford of Raeford, N.C., formerly of Vandalia, will celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary on July 23.

    The Whitfords were married at Bethel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dan Rush officiating.
    They are the parents of one daughter, Tammie Evers, also of Raeford, N.C.

  • Mr. and Mrs. Franklin E. “Gene” Terry of Brownstown celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on June 25, and had a family celebration in their home this past weekend.

    It was pretty HOT, but we had a very fine meeting. However the church’s air conditioning bill may be a bit higher! Everyone made it safely to the meeting, which in itself was a big accomplishment. Thank you for coming.
    Our leaders today were Joyce Staff and Phyllis Rames, while Donna (Smith) Sharp played music as we all gathered together and shared refreshments. The cookies (peanut butter and chocolate chip) were provided by the Brownstown United Methodist Women. Thank you very much.

  • For the third consecutive year, the women at St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church in Vandalia provided an evening meal for the 70 bike riders and support staff participating in “Journey for Jordan.”

  • The St. Elmo High School class of 1954 met for lunch at Good Old Days Banquet Hall on Saturday, May 24, for its 60-year class reunion.

  • Attend Birthday Party
    Dane and Belinda Harpster of St. Peter, traveled to Cape Girardeau, Mo., to attend the seventh birthday party of grandson Dru Eller on Saturday.
    They spent the weekend at the home of Mitch, Gretchen, Owen and Aaron Harpster of Cape Girardeau.
    Mahala Jacquin of Villa Ridge, Mo., also joined them.
