  • SON-Rise services at Northside

    Northside Christian Church, located at 1645 W. Jackson St., Vandalia, will hold a SON-Rise Service at 6:30 a.m. on Easter, Sunday, March 27.
    Immediately after the service, the church men will be serving breakfast until 8 a.m.
    A regular church service, the only one that day, will be at 9 a.m.

    Ben and Charli Wallace of Shelton, Wash., was the parents of a girl born at 5:19 p.m. on Feb. 23, 2016, at Capital Medical Center in Olympia, Wash.

     **Signs Of Spring reported-*Last week, Lucille Fisher said  that her jonquils were blooming; *DeeDee Diveley reported that she has seen a lot of wild turkeys lately, as she drives through the Kaskaskia River Bottom). (Don’t know if this is a sign of Spring, but it is a good sign of a healthy turkey population in the area.)
      *On the Homestead-The pasture is getting greener and thicker; the resident Robin has been seen and herd on Cora’s Corner, but the Longhorn Cow-Girls are still enjoying Josh Behrend’s good home-made hay.

    Worship attendance on Sunday morning was 179.
    The organist was Rita Yagow.
    Gaige Phillips was the acolyte. Attending elders were Curtis Jenne and Jay Rothe.

    • Students can take their artwork to the Fayette County Museum from 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. for the annual Fayette County School Art Show.
    • Blue and Gold Banquet, 5-8 p.m., St. Elmo Elementary School. The menu includes barbecue, chips and dessert. Cakes are to be auctioned off.

    At the First United Methodist Church, Evergreen Outreach scored a big success! With Beulah Brown as our leader, David and Patricia Pence (SoftFire) as our entertainment and the Rev. Joe Lawson to providing us scripture and prayer, we celebrated spring in Ireland with a St. Patrick’s Day theme. It was the best party in town!

  • Lenten Luncheon schedule

    The Vandalia Ministerial Alliance schedule for Lenten Luncheon is as follows:
    • Wednesday, March 16 – First United Methodist Church.
    • Wednesday, March 23 – Unity Baptist Church, Ill. Route 185 and Airport Road.
    The lunches are held from noon-1 p.m.

    St. Paul dinner is Sunday

    The Men's Club at St. Paul Lutheran Church in rural Shobonier will hold its annual dinner this Sunday, with serving from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
