  • From the Chicken Roost
All seems to be going well, both on and off the Homestead chicken roost.
Rhonda and Blackie Hens are now allowing the handsome rooster, “Cogburn,” in their split-level chicken house and on the roost.
Rhonda was no pushover and he had to do a lot of sweet talk to win her over. It is so touching how he calls them to the feed pan before he begins eating. I had never realized how caring a rooster could be.

  • Carol Koester
A card shower has been requested for Carol Koester, a resident and homemaker of the Brownstown area who will celebrate her 80th birthday on Thursday, April 28.

Cards may be sent to her at: 2320 N. 1450 St., Brownstown, Ill. 62418.

  • From the Chicken Roost
Again this week, this space, usually occupied by the Homestead’s four-legged critters, is taken over by the birds of a feather, Blackie & Rhonda Hens and their new friend, “Cogburn” Rooster (also affectionately known as “Coggy” to his Homestead friends).
Finally getting the weather conditions, time, and human motivation and energy aligned, the Homestead Chicken Roost Yard-enlargement finally got under way this past weekend.

  • The Fayette County Home & Community Education held its annual Get-Acquainted Day on Thursday, April 7, at First United Methodist Church in St. Elmo.

They attended church on Saturday evening, went to see great-grandma Mary Harpster at Lutheran Care Center on Sunday, enjoyed playing outside and even found mushrooms in their yard!
