  • Jesus does the unexpected and heals the leper

The word is spreading. Jesus is coming to town. A leper, out of desperation, is going to see Jesus. Lepers were forbidden to enter into the towns and cities. They were forbidden to worship in the temple or synagogues, due to their serious illness.

Today, we learned and shared lessons on being thankful.
The dark clouds, and cold have settled in on our area, and the tornadoes missed us. Boy, are we ever thankful!
David and Patricia Pence (Softfire) arrived early and set the stage (literally) for a great day of thankfulness. We missed our Long Term care and Vandalia Rehab friends; hope you can make it next week. Was it too cold?  Even the border collies were glad to be inside!

  • Word of God full of reminders on being thankful

“Take care; lest you forget the Lord your God … beware lest you say … my power and the might of my hand have gotten me this wealth … for it is God who gives you the power to get wealth”. (Deuteronomy 8:11, 17)

This past Monday will be known as the day after the tornadoes. I think more than seven  counties were declared disasters. More about being thankful and grateful later!
We missed Betty Stolte at the piano, since she was having surgery. We sang “Happy Birthday” (out of key and off tune – Betty would NOT be proud of us) to her, Annie Ledbetter, Genevieve Revis and Lee Poe.

  • Jesus came to free us from even our secret sins

    "Would anyone know
    That my socks had holes,
When I went for my Sunday walk?
    Not really, I’d surmise.

But if my toes poked through
    The holes in my shoes,
    Everyone would know.
    And I’d be quite surprised."

    Churches open food pantry

A new food pantry in Vandalia, operated by an offshoot organization of the Vandalia Ministerial Alliance, opened last week.
Named the 6:35 Pantry, the operation will be run by the Vandalia Association of Churches, an affiliation of pastors that was formed as a 501c3 non-profit organization. It will be located at 214 N. Elm St., just south of Randolph Street.

  • Journey through life with an 'everyday Jesus'

I grew up on a farm a short distance west of Vandalia. My family was not affluent by any standard.
