Now that the heat wave and drought have broken, the Evergreen Outreach gathering  was back at First United Methodist Church on Monday. However, make note, next week we will be back at FCH Long Term Care.

The Council of Catholic Women of Mother of Dolors Parish recently honored Rebecca Kerkhoff by nominating her to be a "Woman of Distinction."

She was recently presented that award by Bishop Paprocki during a Mass in Springfield. She was cited for her volunteer efforts at the church, The Pantry in Ramsey, Lighthouse Pregnancy Center in Vandalia and the Catholic Charities office in Effingham. Appreciation would be the key descriptive word of this week’s Evergreen program, from conversations of the London Olympic Games to the outstanding performance of David and Patricia Pence (the SoftFire duo from Hillsboro).
Concerning the games, one person mentioned that there are athletes from 204 nations that represent their homelands. Another lady remembered reading that ocean liners were contracted to accommodate the overflow of travelers from the many countries.

St. James women publish cookbook

For more than 150 years, the women of St. James Lutheran Church in Vandalia and Zion Lutheran Church in Loogootee have been known for the wonderful food they prepare for church events and fundraisers.
To help raise money for the restoration of the church's steeple, the women have decided to share some of their favorite recipes. That effort has resulted in the publishing of the "Town and Country Cookbook."
