    May, the month of the rich green emerald birthstone, is all about starting new projects and participating in various events.
    This first week, as you know, includes May Day, as well as the Kentucky Derby. Beulah Brown, leader of the day, reminded us of the lovely May flowers, which are now in full bloom.

    Local 'Day of Prayer' activities set

    The Vandalia Ministerial Alliance will sponsor its annual National Day of Prayer breakfast on Thursday, May 5.
    The event, which runs from 7-8 a.m., will be held at the Crawford-Hale American Legion Home in Vandalia. Speaker for the event will be Dave Bell, publisher of The Leader-Union. Marla Ainscough will provide the music, and Dr. Kevin Childers will serve as emcee.

  • Mike Lewis is speaker at final Lenten Luncheon

    The last Lenten Luncheon of the season was held at First Baptist Church of Vandalia on  April 20. Mike Lewis of St. James Lutheran Church was the speaker.
    The Rev. Robert Weaver, pastor of the host church, extended the welcome and led the blessing for the meal, which was prepared by the ladies of the church and served by the deacons and their wives.
    Following the meal, Weaver introduced his wife, Michell Weaver, who sang a song titled “When I Get Too Busy.”

    Café First at Brownstown church

    Café First, a coffee house, will be held for the entire community from 7-9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 26, at First Christian Church in Brownstown, located at the corner of First and Poplar streets.

    Egg hunt Saturday in Brownstown

    Brownstown First Christian Church will host the annual Easter egg hunt at 2 p.m. this Saturday at Brownstown Park.
