    Gospel concert is Sunday at New Bethel

    A gospel concert will be held this Sunday at New Bethel Baptist Church on County Line Road.
    The 7 p.m. concert will feature Jack and Chris Arndt from Walls, Miss. An offering will be taken.
     
    Catholic women to hold deanery meeting

    The Diocesan Council of Catholic Women of the Litchfield Deanery will meet on Thursday, Aug. 25, at Saints Simon and Jude Catholic Church in Gillespie.

    Phyllis Thoman was the pianist on Monday. She played as the guests entered,  and later as the guests were leaving. She took the place of Sandy Dothager, who is moving.
    She played, “In the Good Old Summer Time,” “Has Anyone Seen My Gal,” “Won’t You Come Home Bill Bailey” and other old-time favorites.
    While Phyllis was playing, the cookies, made by Dorothy Schultz, and the drinks were given to the guests. Thank you, Dorothy – we always enjoy the cookies.

    I had the privilege of sharing the Gospel with a person from China many years ago. I began with a simple question, “What is the middle letter in the word sin?” Even people with a limited knowledge of our language get it quickly. The answer is "I.”

    Homecoming Gospel Choir here Sunday

    Bethel Baptist Church in rural Vandalia will host the Homecoming Gospel Choir this Sunday at 6 p.m.
    The 80-voice group from Southern Illinois will sing gospel songs and hymns in the style of the Gaither Homecoming videos. The program is titled "A Homecoming Gospel Reunion."

    Evergreen Outreach began on  Monday to the sound of piano being played by the nimble fingers of Pam Childers.  She played many old EO favorites like "I’ve Been Working on the Railroad," "Let Me Call You Sweetheart," "Oh, Suzanna" and "Old Smoky." Thanks, Pam.

    No matter what turn of events change, the Evergreen Outreach “planned” program, it all works out to be outstanding. It has to be a “God” thing.
    There are absolutely no words to tell how great Patricia and David Pence “SoftFIRE” are. You must come and hear them.
