  • Evergreen Outreach-May 19, 2011

    By Pat Rhodes
We were excited to see the sun shining on Monday as we arrived at the First United Methodist Church for Evergreen Outreach. The warmth from the sun was delightful, despite the cool breeze. We have experienced such a variety of temperature highs and lows here lately. You know what they say about Illinois, “If you don’t like the weather today, stick around, it will change tomorrow.”

Are you aware of the blessings we have right here in Vandalia? As I entered Wesley Hall, Phyllis Thoman at the piano, entertained with many tunes. Some were “Shortenin' Bread,” “Good Ole’ Summertime,” “This Land Is Your Land” and many others.

  • Running is good for the body and the soul

As I work on this article, I am done with three miles of running on a local gym’s treadmill. I won’t say it is easy, although it is easier than it was one year ago, when I could only walk one mile, followed by two days of groaning.
