    Operation Christmas Child collection

    Collection efforts for Operation Christmas Child are going on this week at First United Methodist Church in Vandalia.
    During the week, shoe boxes filled with toys, hygiene items and school supplies will be collected in order to be delivered to needy children by Christmas.

    This time of year is bringing several special occasions. Thanksgiving is soon approaching, and holiday decorations are beginning to be seen.
    It won’t be long before those attending our afternoon programs will be wearing coats and mufflers.

    Fall dinner Sunday at St. Mary's Church

    St. Mary's Church on U.S. Route 40 in St. Elmo will be holding a fall dinner this Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
    The meal will offer a choice of turkey or roast beef, plus all the trimmings.
    The price is $8 for adults, $4 for children 5-12 and free for pre-schoolers. Carryouts are available. For more information, call 829-3908.

     On this wet and rainy Monday, Evergreen Outreach was in full swing – bringing sunshine to everyone!
    Pam Childers played the piano, delighting us all with old-time hymns and gospel songs, followed by the old standbys: "Bill Bailey," "Bye Bye Blackbird," "Clementine"  and "Bicycle Built For Two."

    What a great time of year this is. The heat of summer has given way to the coolness of fall. The leaves on the trees are changing from various shades of green to bright yellow, gold and red.

    A few enjoyable hours are always reserved for everyone attending the Monday programs at Evergreen Outreach. One can visit, learn and have a good time listening to special entertainment.
    This week, we had a Halloween afternoon program at Fayette County Hospital's Long Term Care facility.
    Pianist Betty Stolte opened the program with a variety of selections, which included, “The Lighthouse,” “Mansion on the Hill,” “Born Again” and “Dwelling In Beulah Land.”

    'Total Money Makeover' at Northside

    Northside Christian Church will present Dave Ramsey's "Total Money Makeover," beginning this Sunday.
    The one-hour classes will meet every Sunday from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at the church. There is no cost to attend, as material will be provided by the church.
    Those who are planning to participate are asked to contact the church (283-1970 or www.northsidecc@att.net) so that enough workbooks can be ordered.

    Procrastinators like to wait until the last minute to get things done. As a matter of fact, the procrastinators motto is, “Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow.”
