  • Virden-35 years

Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Virden celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary on Monday.
Friends and family are invited to honor the couple at an open house from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday at Rehoboth Baptist Church camp, located five miles north of Vandalia on U.S. Route 51 or five miles south of Ramsey.
The former Iris Hughes, daughter of the late Marion and Marjorie Hughes of Rosamond, and Dennis Virden, son of the late Ralph and Verna Virden of Ramsey, were married on June 23, 1979, in Pana.

  • God freely adopts all of us into His kingdom

Between the 1850s and 1920s, an estimated 250,000 abandoned or orphaned children were transported from Eastern cities to Midwestern, Southern and Western towns and farm communities for the purpose of giving them a better life, a life away from the dangers of street life.
They were given one-way tickets and put on a train.

  • CDA members contribute to Summer Lunches

It was a great warm summer day for our meeting, and we made the most of it. We missed FAYCO!
Our leader was Cindy Hunter, who told us about her recent “dog accident,” where her HUGE dog bit her golden retriever.  Naturally, a trip to the vet was required, but after careful examination, all was found to be well.

We had another great day, regardless of the downpour that nailed the bus as it was picking up our FAYCO friends!

Monday was another fine day for Evergreen Outreach. Our leader was the Rev. Jim Fackler,  and our pianist was Donna Smith, a really good combination for having fun, laughter and music. That’s the way it was at the Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care activities room.
We shared refreshments as everyone wondered if I could actually get the microphone to work! Since Donna knows most everything by heart, she played and we sang our opening songs.

  • The missing Beatitude: 'Blessed are the complainers'

The beginning of the Sermon on the Mount, termed the Beatitudes, is located in Matthew 5:1-10.
These wise sayings of Jesus are pithy, and at times we struggle to get the real meaning of the statements. For instance, in Matthew 5:5, it says: "Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth." Jesus tells us that meekness is a quality of Christ. They provide many insights in how to live our life.
