    Still time to help with summer lunches

    If you were unable to attend Wednesday's volunteer meeting for the Summer Lunches for Kids program, there's still time to sign up to help.
    Those who wish to volunteer for or donate to the program but were unable to attend the meeting are asked to call Pat Rhodes, 283-5372, or Northside Christian Church, 283-1970.
    The mission of the program is to provide children with free and nutritious lunches during the summer months.

    What a great crowd was in attendance at Wesley Hall for Evergreen Outreach on Monday.
    We were entertained by the beautiful music played by Pam Childers. Some of her tunes included: “You Are My Sunshine,” “Oh, My Darling Clementine,” “Home On the Range” and “I’ve Been Working On the Railroad.”

    The last day of April ushers in thoughts of the tradition of May Day, which is celebrated as a spring festival in many countries.
    Little baskets of flowers were often placed on doors of friends and neighbors. I think I recall at one time our Vandalia school children had May Day picnics in the park.
    So, not to be outdone, EO volunteers placed small May Day baskets on each of the tables, which delighted those attending on Monday.

    Several area residents and pastors participated in prayers at various locations around Vandalia this week as a prelude to the National Day of Prayer on Thursday.

    Women's trio to perform this Sunday

    The Liberty Belles Trio, a Southern gospel women's group from Liberty, Mo., will perform at Crown Point Church Sunday at 10 a.m.
    The church is located seven miles south of Vandalia on Carlyle Road.
