  • OASIS group enjoys several recent outings

The OASIS members and friends of First Baptist Church in Vandalia have been enjoying a variety of activities.
In March, Mary Truitt presented a program titled "Museum in a Suitcase." Included were many items from the Vandalia Museum and information regarding each item. She is very knowledgeable about Vandalia, Fayette County  and the Vandalia Museum.
In April, some members attended Jubilee (an event featuring gospel music and preaching, held in Branson, Mo.).

  • 'As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord'

Beverly Hood was the program manager at Evergreen Outreach on Monday, and Bernie Ray played the introductory music while everyone had refreshments and cookies from Barb McCart. Our main entertainers were Judy Vargas and Randy Schukar.

  • If our identity is rooted in Christ, it changes everything

A few days ago, I went to a local store to pick up a few things. As I was leaving, I heard young voices saying, "Mr. Dave, Mr. Dave." I walked on, but they got louder and more intense. I turned, waved and said "Hi."

  • Kerkhoff Honored

The Council of Catholic Women of Mother of Dolors Parish recently honored Rebecca Kerkhoff by nominating her to be a "Woman of Distinction."

She was recently presented that award by Bishop Paprocki during a Mass in Springfield. She was cited for her volunteer efforts at the church, The Pantry in Ramsey, Lighthouse Pregnancy Center in Vandalia and the Catholic Charities office in Effingham. Pictured with Kerkhoff, left, are Paprocki and Connie Simburger, president of Mother of Dolors Council of Catholic Women.

  • Evergreen Outreach

    By Joyce Mueller
Appreciation would be the key descriptive word of this week’s Evergreen program, from conversations of the London Olympic Games to the outstanding performance of David and Patricia Pence (the SoftFire duo from Hillsboro).
Concerning the games, one person mentioned that there are athletes from 204 nations that represent their homelands. Another lady remembered reading that ocean liners were contracted to accommodate the overflow of travelers from the many countries.

  • Song reminds us that 'He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother'

I remember it like it was yesterday. My sister came home from the “dime store” one afternoon in the fall of 1969 with a new record.
