    Lutheran women to hold rally Sept. 25

    “Streaming for the Lord,” based on Jeremiah 17:7-8 will be the theme for this year’s Altamont Zone Fall Rally of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, Central Illinois District.
    The rally will be held on Sept. 25 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, located at 726 W. Fillmore St. in Vandalia.
    The event will begin at 6 p.m. with opening devotions by the Rev. Peter Kolb, pastor of the host church. Dinner will follow.

    Parkview to host speaker on slavery next Tuesday night

    Parkview Free Methodist Church in Vandalia will host an informational meeting about modern-day slavery next Tuesday at 7 p.m.
    The program will feature Ginger Coakley, the Illinois representative of the Set Free Movement, which is an international ministry of the Free Methodist Church of America.

    In late June, 10 students and four adults from Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Vandalia traveled to Scranton, Pa., to attend a weeklong Higher Things Conference titled “From Above.”

    St. Elmo Christian Church  to hold fundraiser in September  

    St. Elmo Christian Church will be holding a "Three-In-One" road run on Sunday, Sept. 22.
    Included in the fundraising event are a marble ride, a bullseye game and a supper (with entertainment).
    Activities get under way at noon with registration. Participants leave on the ride at 12:30 p.m., and will return between 3 and 4 p.m. The meal will be served at 5 p.m. and the entertainment will begin at 6 p.m.

  • Evergreen Outreach

    Our Evergreen Outreach meeting on Monday was filled with fun! On-the-spot music and entertainment by SoftFire (David and Patricia Pence) opened the program. They started off with a short marching song, like “Onward Christian Soldiers,” to get us all warmed up and welcomed. Their rendition of “Amazing Grace” was stirring and profound.
    Home-baked peanut butter cookies were provided by Cindy Hunter, our leader for the day. The entire kitchen smelled good.

  • OASIS group takes trip to mysterious destination

    Members of the OASIS group of First Baptist Church knew that they were going on a trip last Tuesday, but they didn’t exactly know where they were going. It was a mystery.
    Members were guessing which way they’d go, once the trip got under way.
    Trip coordinator Ginger Wells told them that their destination was more than 30 miles away, but it would take 58 minutes to travel there.

    Northside Christian Church in Vandalia has hired Keith Merritt of Savannah, Ga., as a full-time youth minister.

    The Rev. Carl Rhodes, pastor of Northside Christian Church, and Gene Beckman, Vandalia VFW chaplain, recently completed a class titled "Rural Clergy Training Program," sponsored by the Veterans' Administration.
